Product description

Amber plastic bottle 115 ml

Amber plastic bottle 115 ml is a lightweight, shatterproof packaging for homemade oils, serums, tonics and tinctures that also protects the contents from light. The amber tint reduces light penetration, making it suitable for vegetable oils, vitamin serums or herbal extracts that lose quality faster when exposed to light. Made from PET, it will not break in the bathroom, during travel or in a bag.

The 115 ml volume corresponds to the standard size of facial and body oils, tonics, hair serums, smaller-format liquid soaps, tinctures or culinary oils and syrups. The packaging is suitable for cosmetics and food. The threaded neck fits closures of the same type from our range, so a single bottle can become a dropper, pump, spray or simple cap version depending on what you fill it with.

Why choose an amber PET bottle

  • Light protection – the amber colouring transmits less light than clear plastic, slowing the oxidation of oils and fading of coloured extracts. It does not replace dark, cool storage but complements it.
  • Low weight and durability – PET withstands drops that would shatter glass, and the bottle is significantly lighter than a glass bottle of the same volume. When selling your own products, this also saves on postage.
  • Suitable for cosmetics and food – the material is approved for use with cosmetic products and for direct food contact under normal conditions of use. It is therefore suitable for homemade oils, syrups, vinegars and herbal extracts as well as serums and tonics.
  • Practical size – 115 ml provides several weeks of use for an oil or tonic while the bottle remains compact.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. The total brimful volume is larger and represents the full internal capacity up to the neck. The difference between the two provides clearance for a dropper, pump tube or sprayer and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling to the brim risks overflow when fitting the closure and reduced sealing performance.

Suitable for products such as

  • Face and body oils – a dropper or pump ensures precise dosing, and the brown plastic adds light protection for unsaturated fatty acids.
  • Tonics, hydrolats and facial waters – water-based contents keep well in PET, and with a spray cap you get a practical spray version.
  • Hair serums and massage oils – a shatterproof container is safer than glass in the bathroom and during massage.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – PET tolerates standard concentrations of ethanol in cosmetic and food preparations. For long-term storage of high-proof alcohol, verify suitability beforehand.
  • Cooking oils, syrups and vinegars – thanks to food-contact suitability.

What to know before filling

Before first use, rinse the bottle, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely neck down. Residual water in the container shortens the shelf life of both emulsions and anhydrous oils.

PET is not designed for hot filling. Allow the contents to cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle may deform and lose its seal at the thread.

Neat essential oils and some solvents can attack PET over time, causing it to become cloudy or soften. For undiluted essential oils and fragrance blends, glass is the better choice. Standard concentrations of essential oils in finished oils, tonics and serums are well tolerated by PET.

The bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection, ideally for the same type of contents. Replace the packaging if there is a significant change in colour, odour or clarity of the plastic.

Closures with the same neck type and ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. When creating your own combination, verify the seal and dosing with the specific formulation, especially for low-viscosity oils.

The smooth cylindrical shape of the bottle allows a wraparound label to be applied without difficulty. Height and diameter for calculating label dimensions are listed in the specifications.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber plastic bottle protect the contents from light as effectively as amber glass?
Amber PET transmits less light than clear plastic and slows light-induced oxidation, but it is not a complete barrier. For short- to medium-term use of oils and serums, the protection is adequate. For highly sensitive contents stored over many months, a dark location and shorter use cycles will also help.
Is the 115 ml plastic bottle suitable for food?
Yes, the material is suitable for direct food contact under normal and intended conditions of use. The bottle is suitable for homemade oils, syrups, vinegars and herbal extracts. The declaration of conformity is available with the product. Hot filling is not recommended; allow the contents to cool before pouring.
Can I fill the plastic bottle with a tincture or alcohol-based extract?
Yes, PET tolerates standard ethanol concentrations used in cosmetic and food tinctures. For long-term storage of high-proof alcohol or preparations with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils, glass is the better choice, as these substances can cause the plastic to become cloudy or soften over time.
How much can actually be filled into the 115 ml plastic bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The remaining space below the neck serves as clearance for a dropper, pump or sprayer tube and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Filling right to the neck risks the contents being pushed out when the closure is fitted and reduced sealing performance.
Which closure fits the 115 ml plastic bottle?
The bottle has a G18x3 threaded neck, so all closures of this type from the Handymade range fit: caps, droppers, pumps and sprayers. The choice depends on the contents. A dropper or pump suits thick oils, a spray cap suits tonics, and a simple cap suits kitchen use. Test the seal of your own combination with the specific formulation.
