Product description

Plastic flip top cap 18/410, black

Plastic flip top cap is a closure for bottles with an 18/410 neck that allows dispensing liquid and semi-liquid products with one hand. Flip the lid open with your thumb, squeeze the contents through the small opening, and snap it shut. It is particularly suitable for smaller packaging of body lotions, liquid soaps, shampoos, conditioners, gels, and rinse-off facial cleansers.

The black colour reads as neutral and pairs well with clear, white, and amber bottles. The cap does not visually compete with the label, keeping the packaging design coherent.

Why choose a flip top

  • One-hand dispensing – the lid flips open and snaps shut without unscrewing, which you will appreciate especially in the shower or during quick application.
  • Cleaner dispensing – the contents exit through a small opening, the product does not reach the thread, and the neck stays clean.
  • Single material – the cap is made entirely of polypropylene (PP), it is lightweight, reusable, and once emptied and rinsed it goes in the plastics recycling stream.

Use and dispensing

The cap is intended for products that can be squeezed through a small opening: liquid to medium-viscosity emulsions, gels, liquid soaps, and shampoos. With very thin liquids (tonics, hydrolats, oils) the contents may flow out faster than desired when the bottle is tilted. For such contents, a spray pump, dropper, or disc top closure is more suitable. Very thick creams, on the other hand, are difficult to squeeze through the opening and are better suited to a jar or pump dispenser.

Suitable 18/410 neck bottles as well as ready-made bottle-and-cap combinations are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend testing the seal, the flow of dispensing, and the behaviour of the cap with your specific formulation.

Before filling for the first time, fill the bottle with your formulation, turn it upside down, and leave it to stand for several hours. This lets you check whether the thread seals and whether the product at that viscosity does not leak through the snapped-shut lid.

Good to know

The cap is suitable for use with cosmetic products; a declaration of conformity is available on the product page. Information on suitability for direct food contact is not available, so we do not recommend it for food applications.

Before first use, wash the cap and, if needed, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. When reusing, also clean the inside of the opening and the lid hinge, where product residue may accumulate.

For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol, or solvents, we recommend verifying compatibility with the plastic over time. Allow the product to cool to room temperature before closing.

The lid hinge is the most stressed part of the cap. Open the lid by pushing it upward with your thumb, not sideways, and do not bend it past the stop – this extends the life of the hinge and maintains a reliable snap.

Frequently asked questions

Which bottles is the 18/410 flip top cap suitable for?
The cap fits any bottle with an 18/410 neck, regardless of the material or colour of the bottle. The 18/410 designation is a thread standard found in the bottle specifications; if it matches, the cap will fit. With bottles of a different neck size, the cap will not seat properly and will not seal.
Is a flip top cap suitable for thin liquids such as tonics or oils?
A flip top is not suitable for very thin liquids. The contents flow through the opening quickly when the bottle is tilted and are difficult to dispense precisely. For tonics, hydrolats, and thin oils, a spray pump, dropper, or disc top closure is more appropriate. A flip top works well with liquid soaps, shampoos, and gel or lotion textures.
Can a flip top cap be reused?
Yes, a cap made of polypropylene can be reused. Once the bottle is empty, unscrew the cap, wash it with warm water and a mild cleaning agent, clean the opening and hinge, and allow to dry. Before the next fill, check that the lid still snaps shut firmly and that the thread seals.
Does a flip top closure seal during transport and travel?
The snapped-shut lid prevents ordinary leaking, but during pressure changes (on a plane) or with thicker products, the seal depends on the specific bottle and formulation. Before travelling, test the filled bottle upside down. For sensitive contents, it is advisable to additionally secure the opening, for example with a small piece of film placed under the lid.
Does the PP plastic cap tolerate essential oils and alcohol?
Polypropylene is resistant to common cosmetic bases, but with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol, or solvents it may soften, discolour, or absorb the scent over time. Verify compatibility with your specific formulation over time, especially if the contents are concentrated or anhydrous.
