Product description

This is a plastic cap with a flip-top lid for bottles with a 24/410 neck. It is designed for convenient dispensing of liquid and semi-liquid products: the lid flips open with one hand, the contents are squeezed out through the dispensing opening by pressing the bottle, and snapping it shut seals the bottle again. It is particularly suited for shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, body lotions, lighter creams, and massage or body oils — products used frequently where quick one-handed opening is more practical than unscrewing a cap.

The cap is made of polypropylene (PP) in a clear version, so it does not visually interfere with the appearance of the bottle or label. Based on technical documentation, the packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products.

Key features

  • One-hand opening – the flip-top lid opens with a thumb, which you will appreciate especially in the shower or when working with wet hands.
  • Squeeze-to-dispense – the contents come out through the opening in the cap and the amount is controlled by the pressure applied to the bottle; suitable for liquid to medium-viscosity consistency.
  • Clear polypropylene – a lightweight, shatter-resistant material that withstands common cosmetic ingredients; the transparent version lets the colour of the bottle and label stand out.
  • 24/410 thread – a standard neck size used by the majority of plastic cosmetic bottles.

Use in formulation and production

The cap is suitable for water-based, emulsion-based, and oil-based products. It dispenses liquid and lightly thickened formulations best: gels, shampoos, lotions, oils, and light emulsions. With thick creams or butters, the contents are difficult to squeeze through the opening and the product dries around the opening; for such consistencies a jar or pot is more appropriate.

The dose size depends on the viscosity of the formulation and the flexibility of the bottle. Thin products (tonics, light oils) may flow out in larger amounts than desired; in these cases it is worth considering whether a pump or spray dispenser might be more appropriate. Medium-viscosity gels and lotions dispense best through a flip top.

Before filling a larger batch, run a test with a single bottle: fill it with the finished product, open, dispense, and close it several times, then leave it lying on its side and upside down. This will let you check the seal, dose size, and whether the product settles in the opening.

The cap is sold separately. Bottles with a 24/410 neck as well as ready-made bottle + cap combinations are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal and packaging behaviour with your specific formulation, as different bottles may have slightly different neck heights and shapes.

Suitable for products such as

  • Shower gels and shampoos – quick one-handed opening in the shower, dispensing by squeezing the bottle.
  • Liquid soaps and facial cleansing gels – a controlled dose without hands touching the contents.
  • Body and facial lotions, light emulsions – provided they have a liquid to medium-viscosity consistency.
  • Massage, body, and hair oils – for formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking the material's behaviour over time.
  • Conditioners and thinner hair masks – thicker masks are more difficult to dispense through the opening.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing the cap before use, optionally disinfecting it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing it to dry completely. Residual water or alcohol in the opening and under the lid could find its way into the product.

Seal. The flip top seals well during normal use and carrying, but it is not intended for postal shipping of filled bottles without additional protection. When sending products, seal the opening with tape or pack the bottle so that the lid cannot flip open during transit.

Filling temperature. Fill products only after they have cooled to room temperature, so that steam does not condense under the lid and enter the opening.

Clear plastic does not protect the contents from light. If your formulation is light-sensitive (for example, it contains unstable oils or active ingredients), the protection must be provided by the bottle — dark, opaque, or placed in an outer carton.

Frequently asked questions

Which bottles does the flip top cap 24/410 fit?
The cap fits bottles with a 24/410 neck, which is a common standard for plastic cosmetic bottles. The number 24 indicates the thread diameter in millimetres, 410 the thread type. Before ordering a larger quantity, we recommend verifying the combination with the specific bottle, as neck height and shape vary slightly between bottle manufacturers and can affect the seal.
Is the flip top cap suitable for oil-based products?
Yes, polypropylene caps are commonly used for massage, body, and hair oils. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, fragrance compositions, or solvents, we recommend testing whether the material changes in appearance or shape after several weeks. Thin oils flow out of the opening quickly, so squeeze the bottle gently.
Can a thick cream be dispensed through a flip top?
A thick cream or butter is difficult to dispense through a flip top. The cap is designed for liquid and medium-viscosity products that can be squeezed out by pressing the bottle. With thick formulations the product dries in the opening and the dose is uneven. For creams and butters, a jar or a bottle with a pump for thick products is more appropriate.
How to clean a flip top cap before reuse?
Wash the cap with warm water and dish soap, rinse the opening, and open and close the lid several times to remove product residue. You can then disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and allow it to dry completely. Before refilling, check that the lid still clicks firmly shut; the lid hinge wears with repeated use and if it no longer stays closed, replace the cap.
Does the flip top cap seal during shipping?
When carried in a bag or toiletry pouch, the flip top seals adequately. For postal shipping of filled bottles, however, we recommend sealing the opening with tape or placing the bottle in a resealable bag, as pressure and impacts can flip the lid open. Always verify the seal with the specific bottle and product by testing it lying on its side and upside down.
Does the clear cap protect the contents from light?
No, clear polypropylene does not block light. The cap makes up only a small part of the packaging, so light protection must be provided by the bottle — amber, opaque, or white. For light-sensitive products, such as those containing unstable oils or certain active ingredients, pair the cap with a dark bottle or store the products in a carton.
