Product description

Plastic pump dispenser 24/410, clear, with a shiny silver collar

Plastic pump dispenser 24/410 delivers a consistent dose of body lotion, liquid soap, shampoo, or a light cream with each press – no unscrewing the cap, no fingers touching the contents. Ideal wherever customers dispense a product repeatedly and the contents of the bottle need to stay protected.

The mechanism is made of polypropylene (PP); the clear head and dip tube let you see the product, while the shiny silver aluminium collar gives a uniform look to clear or dark glass or PET bottles. The dispenser is suitable for use with cosmetic products; a declaration of conformity is available with the product.

What the dispenser is suitable for

  • Rinse-off products at the sink and in the shower – liquid soaps, shower gels, shampoos, and conditioners can be dispensed one-handed; the bottle stays closed and no shower water gets into the contents.
  • Body and facial lotions – light to medium-viscosity emulsions are drawn up easily, and one dose corresponds to a typical amount for hands or face.
  • Gel and liquid facial cleansers – hydrophilic gels and micellar cleansers are dispensed precisely without overflow.
  • Hygienic dispensing – the contents are not in contact with hands during use, which reduces the burden on the preservative system compared to a jar that is dipped into with fingers.

Use and assembly

The dispenser screws onto a 24/410 neck finish and is hand-tightened until the thread seal seats. The dip tube fits a standard bottle with this neck; if the bottle is shorter, simply trim the tube with a sharp knife so that the end just touches the bottom. A tube that is too long will bend at the bottom and cause poor uptake; one that is too short will leave product residue at the base.

Cut the tube at an angle. An angled tip prevents it from suctioning against the bottom of the bottle, allowing product to be drawn up to the last few millilitres.

On first use, the dispenser needs to be primed – a few presses will fill the tube and chamber, after which a full dose is delivered. One dose is approximately 0.65 ml; with thicker contents it may be smaller and come out more slowly.

Bottles with a 24/410 neck and ready-made bottle-and-dispenser combinations are available in the Handymade range. When creating your own combination, we recommend checking the seal of the thread and the dispensing performance with your specific formulation.

Good to know

Viscosity matters. The dispenser is designed for liquid to creamy products. Thick creams, butters, balms, or emulsions that thicken significantly on cooling are difficult or impossible to draw up; for these, a jar or a dispenser designed for thick creams is more appropriate. If you are unsure, test the dispensing with the finished, fully cooled product, not with warm mass straight after manufacturing.

Very thin contents (tonics, hydrolats, aqueous solutions) can be dispensed, but a residual drip may fall from the head after pressing. For these products a spray pump is usually chosen instead.

Filling the bottle. The dispenser and its tube occupy space in the neck and bottle, so fill the bottle to its nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the intended fill capacity; the total volume to the brim is greater and provides clearance for the closure and the tube. Overfilling causes contents to be forced out through the thread when the dispenser is screwed on.

Preparation before first filling. The dispenser is supplied as a technical component; before filling with cosmetics, rinse it with clean water or a solution of isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely. Residual water in the chamber would dilute the first dose and place an unnecessary load on the preservative system.

Repeated use and cleaning. The dispenser can be disassembled into the head with tube and the collar with thread, rinsed with warm water, and reused after drying. When changing contents it is important to clean the chamber under the head as well – pump clean water through until it runs clear with no traces of the previous product.

Material and contents. Polypropylene tolerates both oil-based and water-based formulations. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol, or solvents, verify the behaviour of the dispenser in a stability test; such ingredients may over time alter the flexibility of the seal or cause the mechanism to stick. Do not expose the head to high temperatures – the product must be fully cooled before filling.

When transporting finished products, secure the dispenser head, for example with tape, to prevent the contents being pressed out if the package is compressed in transit.

Recycling. The dispenser consists of plastic and a metal collar; once no longer in use, disassemble it and sort the plastic and metal parts separately according to the recycling rules in your municipality.

Frequently asked questions

Which bottles does the plastic 24/410 pump dispenser fit?
The dispenser fits all bottles with a 24/410 neck finish, regardless of the material or volume of the bottle. The number 24 indicates the neck diameter in millimetres and 410 the thread type; the neck specification is listed in the parameters of each bottle. The dispenser will not fit necks with a different diameter or thread type (for example 28/410 or 20/410), even if the diameter appears similar.
How much product does the 24/410 dispenser deliver per press?
One full press delivers approximately 0.65 ml of product. With thicker creams the dose is smaller, and with very thin contents a small amount may drip. On first use the dispenser must be primed with several presses before a full dose is delivered.
Can the dip tube be trimmed?
Yes, the tube can be trimmed with a sharp knife or scissors to match the height of the specific bottle. The correct length is one where the end of the tube just rests against the bottom of the bottle; an angled cut prevents it from suctioning against the base. Do not bend a tube that is too long, as this will result in poor uptake.
Is the plastic dispenser suitable for thick creams and butters?
No, this dispenser is not suitable for thick creams, body butters, or balms. It is designed for liquid and creamy products such as lotions, gels, shampoos, and liquid soaps; thick mass is difficult or impossible to draw up. Test dispensing with the finished, fully cooled product, as emulsions thicken as they cool.
Can the 24/410 dispenser be washed and reused?
Yes, the dispenser can be reused. After disassembly, rinse it with warm water and pump clean water through the chamber until it runs clear with no residue from the previous product; allow it to dry completely before refilling. When changing contents, it is advisable to also rinse with a solution of isopropyl alcohol or ethanol to prevent residues and microorganisms from transferring to the new product.
