Product description

The plastic jar with lid, 150 ml, is a lightweight and shatterproof container made of polypropylene (PP) designed for creams, butters, scrubs, masks and other thicker preparations applied with fingers or a spatula. The clear material reveals the contents and their colour, making it especially suitable for products where texture, coloured layers or herb particles should be visible. The set consists of a round jar and a lid with the same neck type, both components made of the same plastic.

Both the jar and the lid are approved for direct food contact, so the complete set can also be used for homemade spreads, dried herbs, bath salts or sugar scrubs with edible ingredients. The set is also declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; declarations of conformity for both components are available with the product.

Key benefits

  • Wide neck – contents are easy to fill with a spoon or spatula and equally easy to scoop out, even when the substance is thick or solid.
  • Shatterproof and lightweight – polypropylene withstands drops and compared to a glass jar of similar volume reduces package weight, making it suitable for bathrooms, travel and customer shipments.
  • Clear material – contents are visible without opening, which helps at the point of sale and when navigating stock in your own production.
  • One lid for multiple sizes – the lid from this set fits jars of the same range with a volume of 150–365 ml, so when changing product volume it is enough to replace only the jar.
  • European origin – both the jar and the lid are manufactured in the European Union and each component has its own declaration of conformity.

Suitable for products such as

The set is primarily suited for creams and body butters, whipped butters, herbal ointments, balms, thicker gels, salt and sugar scrubs, clay and powder masks, solid shampoos or conditioners and bath salts. A volume of 150 ml corresponds to a standard size of body cream or scrub for several weeks of use.

The jar with lid is not intended for thin liquids (tonics, hydrolats, oils); bottles with a screw cap or dropper are used for those.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the jar is designed for normal filling and which is stated on the label. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is always somewhat larger. The difference provides a buffer for the lid and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, for example when whipped butter expands in the heat. The jar is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim; otherwise the substance will be pushed to the edge when the lid is placed on and the lid will not seat cleanly.

Filling and working with the jar

Before first filling, we recommend washing both the jar and the lid, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing them to dry completely. Residual water in the jar will dilute the preservative system and in anhydrous butters will promote spoilage.

Fill creams and butters into the jar only after cooling to room temperature or just before they set. A hot substance will sink as it solidifies in the jar, creating a depression, and moisture will condense under the lid.

With thick and solid substances the lid holds securely. With semi-liquid gel preparations we recommend checking that the contents do not reach the rim during transport. When combining with a different lid of the same neck type, check the seal and fit with the specific formulation.

Good to know

  • Essential oils and strong solvents – polypropylene is resistant to common cosmetic ingredients. With a high proportion of essential oils or preparations containing solvents, carry out a test on one jar and after several weeks check the surface and scent.
  • Clear plastic does not protect against light – preparations with sensitive oils, vitamins or natural colorants should be stored away from direct sunlight or an opaque container should be chosen instead.
  • Reusable – both the jar and the lid withstand repeated washing. After each use, disinfect again and check whether the lid still seats firmly.
  • Labelling – the straight body of the jar and the flat lid are easy to label.
  • Recycling – both components are made of polypropylene with material code PP 5 and belong in the sorted plastic waste collection.

The set has both food and cosmetic quality, so the same jar can be used for a homemade sugar scrub with honey as well as for a body butter, without needing two different containers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 150 ml plastic jar with lid suitable for food contact?
Yes, both the jar and the lid are approved for direct food contact, so the complete set can also be used for edible products. It is suitable, for example, for herb salts, dried tea blends or scrubs with honey and sugar. Declarations of conformity for both components are included with the product.
What cosmetic products is the 150 ml polypropylene jar suitable for?
The jar is intended for thick and solid preparations applied with fingers or a spatula. It works best for body creams, whipped butters, balms, salt and sugar scrubs, clay masks or solid shampoos. It is not intended for thin liquids such as tonics or oils; for those, choose a bottle with a screw cap or dropper.
Can I fill the plastic jar with hot cream or butter?
We recommend filling the substance only after it has cooled to room temperature or just before it sets. A hot substance will shrink as it cools in the jar, creating a depression, and moisture will also condense under the lid, which can promote spoilage. Verify the heat resistance of the container for hot filling with your specific procedure on a sample.
Does the clear plastic jar protect the contents from light?
No, transparent polypropylene does not block light. Creams with sensitive oils, vitamins or natural colorants should therefore be stored in the dark or away from direct sunlight. If the product is to be displayed in light for a prolonged period, opt for an opaque or dark container instead. The advantage of the clear version is that the customer can see the texture and colour of the contents without opening it.
How should the jar and lid be prepared before filling and can they be reused?
Before first filling, wash both the jar and the lid, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. The container withstands repeated washing and disinfection. Before each subsequent use, check that the lid seats firmly and that the plastic has not been scratched or altered by the previous contents, especially if it contained a high proportion of essential oils. Store empty containers in a dry and clean environment.
Does the lid from this set also fit other jars?
Yes, the lid is designed for jars of the same range with a volume from 150 to 365 ml that have the same neck type. When changing product size, it is therefore sufficient to replace only the jar while the lid remains the same. When combining with a jar from a different production range, always test the fit and seal.
