Product description

Spray dispenser with an extended nozzle for 18/410 neck thread releases a small, measured dose from the bottle as a fine mist with each press. The long, narrow nozzle targets exactly where the product needs to land, which is why this type of closure is used primarily with oral sprays and breath fresheners, with liquid preparations for the lips or oral mucosa, and wherever a small amount of liquid needs to be applied to a precise spot without dispersing it into the surrounding area.

The dispenser is made from white polypropylene (PP), a lightweight and durable plastic. It fits small bottles and dropper bottles with an 18/410 neck, meaning products that customers carry with them and use multiple times a day. The packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products; a declaration of conformity is available with the product.

How the dispenser works

  • Measured dose – each press always releases approximately the same amount, around 0.1 ml. The customer cannot overdose on the preparation, and the bottle's contents last for a predictable number of uses.
  • Fine mist instead of a jet – the nozzle disperses the liquid into tiny droplets that spread evenly across the surface. A continuous jet would be uncomfortable on the mucosa and lips.
  • Extended nozzle – compared to a standard sprayer, the nozzle is longer and narrower, allowing the dose to be directed into the oral cavity or a precisely chosen spot without affecting the surrounding area.
  • Tube reaching the bottom – the dispenser draws the contents through a tube extending almost to the bottom of the bottle, so nearly all of the contents can be used.

Suitable formulations

The spray mechanism works reliably with liquids with a viscosity close to water: aqueous solutions, hydrolates, alcohol and hydroalcoholic extracts, tinctures diluted to application concentration, and solutions with a lower proportion of glycerin. The thicker the formulation, the worse it sprays. At a syrupy consistency, the dose becomes drops or a jet and the nozzle may clog.

Pure vegetable oils are not suitable for this type of dispenser, as they cannot be atomised into a mist and leave residue on the nozzle. If the formulation contains a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic and seals with the specific contents before a larger production run.

Press a new dispenser several times without the bottle until the tube and chamber fill with liquid and an even mist begins to come out. This is normal behaviour for any dispenser, not a defect.

Use in production

  • Bottle selection – the dispenser fits 18/410 necks. The dropper bottles and flasks in the Handymade range share the same neck type and the combinations have been verified. For a custom combination, we recommend checking the seal, dosing, and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.
  • Shortening the tube – the tube is supplied at a length for taller bottles. For a shorter bottle, cut it with a sharp knife or scissors so that its end sits just above the bottom. An angled cut prevents the tube from suctioning to the bottom and stopping intake.
  • Filling – fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The headspace below the neck is needed for the tube and the body of the dispenser, which displace some of the contents upward when screwed in.
  • Tightening – tighten the thread by hand, without force. The PP thread can deform if overtightened and will no longer seal.

Good to know

Before first filling, we recommend rinsing the dispenser with clean water or ethanol and allowing it to dry completely. The inside of the mechanism is rinsed by pressing it several times in the clean liquid. The same procedure applies when reusing it. However, the internal mechanism cannot be disassembled, so the dispenser is better suited to repeated filling with the same type of preparation than to alternating different fragrances.

The mist from the nozzle reaches the mucosa directly, so the bottle's contents should be reliably preserved and the dispenser should be clean when filling. Aqueous formulations without a preservative do not belong in this type of packaging, regardless of how tightly it seals.

Polypropylene is a recyclable plastic. Before disposal, simply empty and rinse the dispenser.

The dispenser is intended for cosmetic and technical use. Suitability for direct contact with food is not declared, so we do not recommend it for food-grade preparations.

Frequently asked questions

What type of bottle does the 18/410 spray dispenser fit?
Any bottle or dropper bottle with an 18/410 neck, meaning an outer thread diameter of 18 mm and a single thread turn. This neck type is found mainly on small bottles and vials for preparations that are carried around. When combining with a bottle from another supplier, we recommend verifying that the thread seats tightly and the tube reaches the bottom.
Can oil be dispensed with this spray dispenser?
No, pure oil cannot be atomised into a mist by this dispenser. The mechanism is designed for liquids with a viscosity close to water. With oil, a continuous jet or drops emerge and the nozzle gradually clogs. If the formulation contains an oil component, it must be solubilised in an aqueous or alcoholic base so that the result remains fluid.
Why does the dispenser not spray anything on the first press?
Because the tube and chamber of the dispenser are still empty and need to fill with liquid first. Simply press the dispenser several times until an even mist begins to come out. The same behaviour may recur after a long period of non-use or after the bottle has been carried on its side and the tube has drawn in air.
How to shorten the tube of a spray dispenser for a shorter bottle?
Cut the tube with sharp scissors or a knife so that its end sits just above the bottom of the bottle. Make the cut at an angle so the tube cannot suction to the bottom and stop drawing liquid. Measure the length first with the dispenser held against the neck; a shortened tube cannot be lengthened again.
Is the spray dispenser suitable for repeated use?
Yes, if rinsed with clean water or ethanol and left to dry, it can be used again. However, the internal mechanism cannot be disassembled and some liquid will always remain inside. It is therefore preferable to refill it repeatedly with the same type of preparation rather than alternating different fragrances or active ingredients.
Why should a bottle with a spray dispenser not be filled to the brim?
Because the tube and lower part of the dispenser occupy some of the volume when screwed in and push the contents upward. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume stated in its specifications, not to the neck. The difference between the nominal and total volume is precisely the headspace for the closure. An overfilled bottle will overflow when closed and contaminate the thread.
