Product description

Plastic trigger sprayer, 28/410, black

A trigger sprayer is a closure with a manual pump and trigger that turns a bottle with a 28/410 neck into a simple dosing spray. It is useful wherever the contents need to be applied over a larger area quickly and in an even layer: on household cleaners, degreasers, vinegar and baking soda solutions, fabric and air fresheners, water for misting plants or surface care products. The black colour of the head matches both dark and white bottles.

This is a mechanical closure without a propellant. Each press of the trigger dispenses the same dose of liquid, so consumption is predictable and the contents are dosed without spilling. The sprayer is made of polypropylene and polyethylene.

What the trigger sprayer is suitable for

  • Household cleaners – all-purpose cleaners, kitchen degreasers, glass and bathroom cleaners, vinegar and lemon solutions. The fine mist wets the surface evenly and the product is then easy to wipe off.
  • Fresheners and fragrance sprays – water sprays for fabrics, curtains or for the room, where a wider spray pattern is desirable.
  • Plants and household – misting of indoor plants, water for ironing, solutions for minor maintenance.
  • Cosmetic products for larger areas – body mists, body tonics or after-sun products in larger bottles, where the trigger is more comfortable than a small button.

How to work with the sprayer

The sprayer screws onto a bottle with a 28/410 thread. You will find the neck type in the parameters of each bottle in the Handymade range, as well as ready-made bottle + sprayer combinations. Before fitting, the dip tube is shortened to the height of the bottle so that the end touches the bottom but does not kink. Simply cut it at an angle with sharp scissors: an angled cut will not press flat against the bottom and the suction stays smooth.

On first use, the trigger needs to be pressed several times until the tube and pump fill with liquid. The volume of a single dose is given in the parameters and with common water-based solutions it is constant. With thicker liquids the dose is smaller and the spray coarser.

Fill the bottle only up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The reserve below the neck is needed for the tube, the lower part of the pump and for the air that is drawn back into the bottle during spraying.

What is good to know

Suitable contents. The sprayer is designed for water-based solutions and thin liquids: cleaning solutions with surfactants, vinegar and baking soda solutions, hydrolates, water sprays with solubilised essential oils. Polypropylene tolerates common household cleaning ingredients and alcohol solutions at lower concentrations well.

What to watch out for. Pure essential oils, solvents, concentrated acids or chlorine-based products can over time damage the plastic and seals or change the shape of the tube. With such contents we recommend first a test on a small amount and monitoring the tightness and the trigger's operation for a few days. Thick gels, suspensions with undissolved particles and oily contents clog or slow down the pump. For those, a different type of closure is more suitable.

Water-based contents and preservation. The sprayer does not seal the contents sterile; air and the tube remain in the bottle. Water-based products without a cleaning or alcohol component therefore need adequate preservation just as in any other container.

Cleaning and reuse. Before the first filling, rinse the sprayer with clean water and let it dry. For cosmetic use, it is recommended to spray ethanol or isopropanol through the pump and let it evaporate. When changing the contents, rinse the tube and pump with water and spray several times so that no residue of the previous product remains in it. The sprayer can be reused as long as the trigger springs back and the nozzle sprays evenly.

Suitability for cosmetics. The packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity and documents are with the product. Suitability for food contact is not declared, so we do not recommend the sprayer for table oils or beverages.

After screwing it on, check that the tube is not bent at the bottom of the bottle and that the trigger returns to its starting position. A shortened or kinked tube is the most common reason why the sprayer “does not catch” and sprays only air.

Recycling. After use and rinsing, the sprayer belongs with plastics.

Frequently asked questions

What bottle does the 28/410 trigger sprayer fit?
The trigger sprayer fits any bottle with a 28/410 neck and thread, regardless of the bottle material. The thread type is given in the parameters of the bottles in the Handymade range. It cannot be fitted to bottles with a different neck. You adjust the length of the tube to the height of the particular bottle.
Can the trigger sprayer be used for essential oils and alcohol-based sprays?
For thin alcohol-based and water-alcohol solutions yes, for pure essential oils no. The polypropylene pump tolerates ethanol at the usual concentrations of fragrance and disinfection sprays, but concentrated essential oils and solvents can damage the plastic and seals over time. For sprays with a higher proportion of essential oils we recommend a test on a small amount and a tightness check after a few days.
Why does the trigger sprayer not spray or spray only air?
The most common cause is a tube that does not reach the bottom, is kinked, or the pump has not yet filled with liquid. On first use, the trigger needs to be pressed several times in a row until the tube fills. If the contents are thick or contain undissolved particles, the pump may clog. In that case, rinsing with water and spraying through helps.
How is the trigger sprayer cleaned when changing the contents?
The sprayer is unscrewed, the tube and pump are rinsed with clean water and sprayed through several times so that the water passes all the way to the nozzle. For cosmetic contents it is recommended to also spray ethanol or isopropanol through and let it dry freely. After such cleaning the sprayer is ready for further use.
Is the trigger sprayer suitable for cosmetic products?
Yes, the packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products and the declaration of conformity is with the product. In practice it is suitable for thin water-based products in larger bottles, for example body mists, body tonics or after-sun products. It is not intended for thick emulsions and oils. Water-based products without a cleaning or alcohol component need to be preserved just as in another container.
