Product description
The 10 ml white glass pharmaceutical bottle is a small packaging option for serums, oil blends, tinctures and samples that are dispensed drop by drop or in small amounts. White glass is opaque, so the contents stay hidden and less light reaches them than with a clear bottle. The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish, so you choose a dropper or cap for it according to how the contents are to be dispensed.
It is supplied in a pack of 540. This suits producers who regularly fill larger runs, prepare test samples for customers or need uniform packaging for a whole range of small products.
Suitable uses
- Serums and concentrates – the small volume suits preparations with a higher proportion of active ingredients that are used up drop by drop.
- Oil blends and fragrance oils – glass does not react with oils or essential oils, so the fragrance and composition of the contents are not affected by the packaging.
- Tinctures and alcohol-based preparations – ethanol does not damage glass. Tightness with such contents depends on the closure and its liner.
- Samples and test batches – identical pharmaceutical bottles throughout the pack make it easier to compare recipe versions and to hand out samples.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper, which takes up part of the space in the neck once inserted, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. You should therefore fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim.
Preparation before filling and reuse
Before the first filling, wash the bottles, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water in the packaging shortens the stability of both water-based and oil-based preparations. With a narrow neck, a small funnel or a dosing syringe helps keep the contents from running down the thread so that the closure seats properly.
Let hot or still warm blends cool down before filling. A sudden temperature difference between the contents and the cold glass can crack the bottle.
After thorough washing and disinfection, the glass can be reused. With oil and fragrance contents, however, an odour may remain in the glass and carry over into the next filling. For a new product with a different fragrance, it is better to use new pharmaceutical bottles.
Good to know
The packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the relevant legislative requirements. The declaration of conformity is available with the product.
You will find closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations of a pharmaceutical bottle with a dropper, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation, especially with alcohol-based and thin contents.
The dropper needs free space in the neck. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the contents will overflow along the thread when you insert the closure, and the closure may not seal.
An empty glass pharmaceutical bottle belongs in glass recycling. Unscrew the closure before disposal and sort it according to its material.
