Product description

This white plastic bottle with a capacity of 200 ml and a 24/410 neck is designed for filling liquid and creamy products that are dispensed with a pump, a sprayer or by pouring through a cap. Opaque white PET limits light exposure, so it also suits contents that do not tolerate direct sunlight well, such as oils or products with plant extracts. The plastic is light and unbreakable, which you will appreciate in the shower, while travelling and when shipping parcels. The packaging is certified for direct contact with cosmetics and food, so besides shampoos or body lotions you can also fill it with homemade oils, syrups or herbal infusions. It is supplied without closure, in a pack of 225, which suits smaller batch production or stock for several sales runs.

What the bottle is suited for

  • Shampoos, shower gels and conditioners – 200 ml is a common volume for rinse-off products used in the shower, where plastic packaging withstands moisture as well as being dropped on tiles.
  • Body lotions and lighter creams – with a pump they are dispensed without fingers touching the contents, which reduces the risk of microbial contamination during use.
  • Toners, micellar waters and hair sprays – water-based and thin formulations are easy to spray and pour from this bottle.
  • Body and massage oils – the opaque wall limits the light that speeds up the oxidation of oils.
  • Liquid soaps and cleansing gels – by the sink and in a damp bathroom, plastic is safer than glass.
  • Food use – flavoured oils, syrups, herbal infusions or homemade dressings, as the packaging meets the requirements for direct contact with food.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 200 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. More will fit up to the neck, but this difference is a reserve for the closure, the pump or the sprayer tube, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you use a closure with a pump, bear in mind that the mechanism itself takes up part of the space in the neck.

Closure and neck

The neck has a GL24 thread, that is, the common 24/410 standard. You will find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. If you are putting together your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation on a single bottle before filling the whole batch.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry thoroughly with the neck facing down. Packaging straight from production is not sterile, and any residual moisture in the bottle dilutes the preservative system of the product.

White plastic is opaque, so you cannot see the level of the contents from the outside. When filling a batch, weigh or measure out a single portion and fill according to it, or mark the first bottle as a reference.

PET is sensitive to heat. Let emulsions, gels and infusions cool to room temperature before filling, as hot contents may deform the wall of the bottle and compromise the neck seal.

Concentrated essential oils, solvents and strongly acidic or alkaline concentrates may attack the plastic. For formulations with a higher proportion of such ingredients, check on a sample whether the wall of the bottle changes after several weeks and whether the contents change their fragrance.

The bottle withstands repeated use as long as it is undamaged and is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each use. When screwing the closure on repeatedly, keep an eye on the thread, as a worn thread will stop sealing. At the end of its life, the bottle belongs in the plastics recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does a white plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, white PET is opaque and lets only a limited amount of light through to the contents. For oils, products with plant extracts or products with light-sensitive dyes, it is a better choice than clear plastic. However, it does not replace storage away from direct sunlight, which we recommend for every type of packaging.
Can a PET bottle be reused and how do I clean it?
Yes, you can use an undamaged bottle several times. After emptying it, wash it with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely with the neck facing down. Avoid hot water, which could deform the plastic. When changing the type of contents, for example from oil to a water-based toner, bear in mind that residual fragrance is harder to remove from plastic than from glass.
Is the white PET bottle suitable for oils, alcohol tinctures and water-based solutions?
PET is a commonly used material for vegetable oils, emulsions, gels and water-based solutions. For alcohol tinctures with a high alcohol content and for products with a higher content of essential oils, we recommend checking compatibility on a single bottle over several weeks, because concentrated solvents and essential oils may attack the plastic. The packaging is approved for contact with cosmetics and food.
Which closure fits a 24/410 neck?
Closures with a GL24 thread, which is the 24/410 standard, fit the bottle. Depending on how you want to dispense the product, you can choose a pouring cap, a pump or a sprayer. You will find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. When putting together your own set, always check the seal and whether the tube of the pump or sprayer reaches the bottom of the bottle.
Can I fill hot contents into a plastic bottle?
No, hot contents do not belong in a PET bottle. At higher temperatures the plastic softens and the wall of the bottle may deform, which compromises the shape of the neck and the seal of the closure. Let emulsions, gels and infusions cool to room temperature before filling. If you make products by a hot process, you should therefore fill the bottle only after the finished product has cooled completely.
