Product description

Plastic cap for fabric softener bottle, white, type 2

A screw cap that reliably seals bottles with a LD 42/3 neck, as used for fabric softeners, liquid detergents and other household products in larger volumes. Its purpose is to prevent spills and evaporation of the contents while allowing repeated opening during daily dispensing. It is suitable for home and small-batch production of fabric softeners, liquid detergents, dishwashing gels and all-purpose cleaners, as well as for cosmetics filled into large bottles, such as shower gels, shampoos or body lotions in family-size packaging.

The cap is made from polypropylene (PP) in cosmetic grade. The packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the relevant legislative requirements. The white finish matches both white and coloured bottles on which it is commonly used.

Why choose this cap

  • Polypropylene – a material that resists surfactants, mild acids and bases well, which are the components of common laundry and cleaning products.
  • Screw thread LD 42/3 – the standard neck type for fabric softener bottles, making the cap easy to combine with bottles of the same neck from Handymade's range.
  • Repeated opening – the screw thread is designed for daily opening and closing, which is important for household products dispensed every day.
  • Easy to clean – the smooth plastic washes well and requires no special maintenance.

Practical use

The cap is screwed onto the bottle neck and tightened by hand. With liquid detergents and fabric softeners, it is important that the thread is not contaminated with product residue before closing. Wipe off any drops on the neck, otherwise the cap will become harder to unscrew over time and surfactants on the thread may form a sticky film.

Before the first filling, we recommend washing the cap, disinfecting it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing it to dry completely. This applies especially to cosmetic products, where residual moisture or impurities can reduce the microbiological stability of the contents.

Fill the bottle only to the nominal volume, not to the rim. The space beneath the cap is a buffer for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes and for safe closing without pushing the product onto the thread.

Ready-made bottle + cap combinations as well as individual bottles with the same neck type are available in Handymade's range.

Suitable for products such as

  • Fabric softeners and liquid detergents – the primary application; the cap is designed specifically for this type of bottle and contents.
  • Dishwashing gels, all-purpose cleaners and concentrates – aqueous surfactant solutions that polypropylene tolerates well over long-term contact.
  • Cosmetics in large packaging – shower gels, shampoos, body lotions or massage oils filled into bottles with the same neck.
  • Working stock bottles in production – sealing intermediates and bases before further processing or transfer into smaller containers.

Good to know

Polypropylene is chemically resistant, but with highly concentrated essential oils, solvents or products with a high alcohol content, we recommend a simple test before serial filling. Leave the cap in contact with the contents for a few days and observe whether it changes shape, colour or thread flexibility. With standard aqueous detergents and cosmetic emulsions, such changes are not expected.

If the product is filled hot, let it cool to room temperature in the bottle before sealing. Otherwise, the vacuum that forms as it cools may deform the bottle and make it difficult to open.

For products that are transported or stored on their side, check the seal of the filled bottle with this cap before dispatch. The seal depends on the combination of the neck, tightening and the viscosity of the contents, not on the cap alone.

The cap is suitable for reuse after washing. Polypropylene is among the commonly recyclable plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Which bottles fit the plastic cap for fabric softener bottle type 2?
It fits bottles with a neck type LD 42/3. This is the standard thread for fabric softener bottles, available in Handymade's range for individual bottles and ready-made combinations. For bottles from other manufacturers with the same neck designation, it is advisable to verify the seal in advance, as thread manufacturing tolerances vary slightly between producers.
Is this cap suitable for cosmetics, not just household products?
Yes, the cap is also suitable for cosmetics. It is made in cosmetic grade and can be used for shower gels, shampoos, body lotions or massage oils filled into bottles with an LD 42/3 neck. Before the first filling, we recommend disinfecting it and allowing it to dry completely so that residual moisture does not reduce the microbiological stability of the contents.
Does the polypropylene cap resist surfactants and essential oils?
Polypropylene resists common surfactants, mild acids and bases in laundry and cleaning products well. With highly concentrated essential oils, solvents or products with a high alcohol content, we recommend a brief contact test. Leave the cap in contact with the contents for a few days and observe whether it changes shape, colour or thread flexibility.
Can the fabric softener bottle cap be washed and reused?
Yes, the cap is suitable for repeated use. Simply wash it with warm water and a surfactant, or disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry. Before reuse, check that no dried residue of the previous product remains on the thread, as this would impair tightening and the seal.
Why should a bottle with this cap not be filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled only to the nominal volume, because space must be left below the cap as a buffer for the expansion of the contents and for safe closing. The nominal volume is the volume intended for standard filling; the total volume to the brim is larger by precisely this buffer. When filled to the neck, the product reaches the thread, the cap tightens poorly, and the contents may leak when the temperature changes.
