Product description
Plastic foamer bottle white, 150 ml
The plastic foamer bottle turns a liquid cleansing product into soft foam right at the press, without propellant and without a pressurised container. It is a ready-made set of a bottle and a foaming pump with a volume of 150 ml, which you simply fill with a properly diluted formulation containing surfactants. It is suitable for foaming facial cleansers, hand-washing foams, foam shampoos for children and adults, intimate wash foams or shaving foams.
The bottle is made of PET, it is light, durable and suits both the bathroom and travel. The white colour conceals the contents and reduces light reaching the filling, which helps with products containing dyes or more sensitive ingredients. The pump is white with a transparent cap that protects the nozzle from dust and accidental pressing. Both the bottle and the pump are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
How the foamer works
The foaming pump has nothing to do with an aerosol. When pressed, it draws liquid from the bottle and at the same time air from the space above the surface. The two mix and are pushed through a fine mesh, which breaks the liquid up into dense, stable foam. The foam is created mechanically, so its quality depends on the composition of the filling, not on the container.
- No propellant – the foam is created only by mixing the liquid with air, the product needs no propellant or pressurised container.
- Economical dosing – a small amount of product produces a voluminous dose of foam, so one filling lasts longer than with a classic pump.
- Convenient application – the foam does not run off, it holds on the palm and on the skin and spreads well, which you will appreciate with facial cleansers and children's shampoos.
- Hygienic use – the contents are dispensed without opening the bottle, and the cap protects the pump nozzle between uses.
Use in a formulation
The foamer needs a water-based, liquid filling with low viscosity. The base is usually a solution of mild surfactants (for example Coco-Glucoside, Decyl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine or Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate in lower concentrations) in water or a hydrolat. It is supplemented by a humectant, a water-soluble active extract and a suitable preservative. The more liquid the filling, the more easily the pump works and the denser the foam.
What the pump cannot handle: thickened gels, creamy textures, products with an oil phase without a solubiliser and anything with insoluble particles (scrub, clay, powders). A thick filling strains the pump, the mesh clogs and instead of foam a thin stream of liquid comes out. Thickeners are therefore not added to foaming products at all, or only in a minimal amount.
Before filling, test the finished product in a small amount directly in this set. If the foam is thin or collapses quickly, it helps to increase the proportion of surfactant or to add an auxiliary surfactant that supports foam. If the pump works with difficulty, the filling needs to be diluted.
Foaming products are water-based and have a low surfactant content, so preservation is necessary. The air that the pump draws in also passes through the upper part of the bottle. Choose a preservative proven for rinse-off water-based products and monitor the pH of the filling according to its requirements.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount of filling the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is not a shortcoming but a necessary reserve: once screwed on, the pump takes up part of the space in the neck, and the foamer additionally needs an air space above the surface from which it draws air into the foam. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, never to the brim. When overfilled, the pump draws in little air and the foam is thin or does not form at all.
What is good to know
- Before the first filling wash the bottle and the pump, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. After disinfection, pump clean water through the pump several times so that no residues remain in the mesh.
- Temperature of the filling – PET is not intended for hot filling. Let the product cool to room temperature, otherwise the bottle may deform.
- Essential oils and solvents – a high proportion of alcohol, essential oils or solvents may put long-term strain on PET. In foaming products these ingredients are usually present in low concentrations; at a higher proportion we recommend verifying the behaviour of the container with the specific formulation.
- Repeated use – the set can be used repeatedly. At each refill, rinse the pump with clean water so that dried surfactant residues do not clog the mesh, and do not mix different products without cleaning.
- Labelling – the bottle has a flat cylindrical surface suitable for a label; the dimensions for the label design can be found in the product parameters.
- Contact with food – the set is intended for cosmetics, it is not approved for contact with food.
- Recycling – the PET bottle belongs in plastic waste; separate the pump from the bottle before disposal.
The foamer is not suitable for products with oils, thickeners or solid particles. Such fillings clog and damage the pump. For those, choose a classic pump or a flip-top cap.
