Product description
The 250 ml white plastic jar with lid is a complete set ready for filling: a white wide-mouth jar, a screw-on lid and an inner liner that covers the surface of the contents. It is suitable for thicker and solid preparations that are scooped with fingers or a spatula – body butters, nourishing creams, scrubs, masks, balms and cream deodorants. The set as a whole is approved for direct food contact, so it can also be used for homemade condiments, herbal blends or spices.
White opaque plastic reduces light exposure, which you will appreciate especially for preparations with a higher proportion of vegetable oils and butters. The jar is lightweight and shatterproof, so it can be used without worry in the bathroom, taken on trips and handles postal shipping well.
What the set contains
- Jar – white, made of HDPE, with a wide mouth through which thick product can be comfortably filled and scooped.
- Lid – white screw-on lid made of PP, which screws directly onto the jar thread and keeps the contents sealed.
- Inner liner – a transparent PP disc that is placed under the lid on the surface of the filling. It separates the contents from the lid, reduces surface drying and lowers the risk of the product reaching the thread during transport.
The entire set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics and food; declarations of conformity can be found at the product.
What the jar is suitable for
- Body butters and balms – the wide mouth allows scooping even firmer product, the liner protects the smooth surface after solidification.
- Body and hand creams – the 250 ml volume corresponds to a standard body cream package for home or salon use.
- Scrubs – sugar and salt scrubs with an oil base are easy to scoop from the jar.
- Masks and wraps – clay, cream or oil-based masks for face, body and hair.
- Cream deodorants and solid soap or shampoo masses – anything that is poured in a semi-solid state and used by scooping.
- Food and homemade blends – dried herbs, spices, seasoning salts, spreads or honey.
The set is not intended for thin and liquid products such as tonics, oils or milks. For these, we recommend a bottle with a suitable closure.
Filling and volume
The jar is filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. Nominal volume is the quantity for which the container is designed under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the rim is greater, and the difference provides clearance for the inner liner, the lid and any expansion of the contents with temperature change. If you fill the jar to the rim, the liner will push the product onto the thread and the lid will not seat cleanly.
Pour butters and balms into the jar only after they have cooled to a temperature at which the product still pours. Place the liner and lid only after the contents have fully solidified. If you seal while the contents are still warm, condensation forms on the liner and the surface solidifies unevenly.
Plastic deforms under heat, so it is not suitable for filling with hot product directly from the vessel in which you melted it.
What is good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the jar, lid and liner, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Moisture in the container shortens the stability of water-based preparations.
- Repeated use – all three parts can withstand repeated washing; disinfect them again before each subsequent use. Replace a scratched or deformed liner as it would no longer sit flush against the surface of the contents.
- Essential oils and solvents – both HDPE and PP are resistant to common cosmetic ingredients. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the container during longer storage to ensure the fragrance does not penetrate the plastic.
- Other closures – the set includes a lid and a liner. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and container behaviour with the specific formulation.
- Recycling – the HDPE jar as well as the PP lid and liner are recyclable plastics; simply empty them before disposal.
If you use the jar alternately for cosmetics and food, wash and disinfect it thoroughly between uses. Residues of oils and fragrances in the plastic transfer to the next contents.
