White Plastic Lotion Pump, Ribbed Collar, 28/410

The plastic pump with a 28/410 thread is a dispensing closure for bottles with the same neck type. Each press dispenses approximately 1.2 ml of product, which makes it suitable for products used daily and repeatedly: liquid soaps, shampoos, shower gels and body lotions. The product is dispensed with one hand, without unscrewing the cap, tilting the bottle or unnecessary contact with the neck.

The 28/410 neck is one of the common standards for larger bottles, so the pump finds use on retail bathroom packaging, in dispensers by the sink and on larger raw-material packages on the manufacturer's workbench. The white colour looks clean on both white and coloured bottles, and the ribbed collar improves grip when tightening onto the thread.

What the pump is made of

The plastic parts of the pump are made of polypropylene and polyethylene, and the dip tube is made of soft polyethylene. Inside the mechanism works a steel spring, which returns the head to its starting position, and a glass valve element, which prevents the product from flowing back into the bottle. The mechanism is not intended for disassembly; during cleaning it is rinsed as a whole.

Which products it is suitable for

• Liquid soaps and shampoos – the most common use. The pump dispenses them without dripping and the product is not spoiled by repeated opening of the bottle.
• Shower gels and conditioners – liquid to medium-thick textures are suitable, which the tube can draw up between two presses.
• Body lotions and lighter creams – with thicker emulsions it is worth checking whether the mechanism draws up smoothly and whether a dried plug forms in the head after a longer break.
• Body and massage oils – the pump handles oil-based contents; polypropylene and polyethylene tolerate common vegetable oils.

The pump is not suitable for thick creams, butters, scrubs with particles, or products with solid pieces of herbs or seeds. The particles settle in the valve and the pump stops dispensing or starts to leak.

How to prepare the pump correctly

The tube is supplied in a length for taller bottles and is shortened as needed. It should reach just to the bottom of the bottle without bending or resting against the bottom. A tube that is too long will kink and the pump will draw in air, while one that is too short will leave unused product at the bottom.

After screwing it onto a full bottle, the head needs to be primed with a few empty presses until the mechanism fills and starts dispensing product. With thicker products this takes a few presses longer.

What is good to know

• Contact with cosmetics – according to the technical documentation, the packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the relevant legislative requirements.
• Preparation before first filling – we recommend rinsing the pump, disinfecting it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, pumping it through and letting it dry completely. Moisture in the mechanism would dilute the first doses and unnecessarily burden the preservation system.
• Repeated use – after emptying the bottle it is enough to pump through warm water, then clean water and let it dry. Dried residues of lotion or gel are loosened by soaking the head and tube in warm water.
• Transport of finished products – when shipping, bear in mind that pressing the head inside the parcel will push out the product. It is safer to close the bottle for transport with a cap and enclose the pump separately.

• Recycling – the pump combines plastic, steel and glass, so it is harder to recycle than the bottle itself. The longer it is reused, the better.
