Plastic dropper cap 18/410 is a complete closure for glass vials that dispenses the contents drop by drop directly from the vial, without any additional tool – simply tilt the vial. It consists of a plastic dropper insert that is pressed into the neck after filling, and a white cap with a tamper-evident ring that seals the vial. It is particularly suited for essential oils and fragrance compositions, light facial oils and oil serums, tinctures and concentrates of active ingredients – wherever precise dispensing of small amounts matters.
The cap is made of polyethylene (PE), the dropper of polypropylene (PP). The white colour of the cap is neutral and pairs well with amber and blue vials that protect the contents from light. The tamper-evident ring tears on first opening, so the customer can immediately tell whether the product has been opened. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics; it is not approved for contact with food.
What the set consists of
- Dropper insert – a transparent PP insert that is pressed into the neck after the vial is filled and holds firmly in place. The small outlet restricts flow to individual drops, so the contents do not pour out even when tilted sharply. This is the longer version of the dropper designed for glass vials.
- Cap with 18/410 thread – a white PE cap with an inner liner of the same material that, when tightened, seats on the dropper and seals its opening. The contents therefore do not evaporate or leak during transport.
- Tamper-evident ring – a perforated band on the lower edge of the cap. On first unscrewing it tears and remains on the vial neck. It works only on vials that have a corresponding bead below the thread; on a smooth neck the ring has nothing to catch on.
Particularly suitable for
- Essential oils and fragrance compositions – dispensed drop by drop in small quantities; the dropper also limits evaporation when open.
- Light facial oils and oil serums – liquid oils of low to medium viscosity flow through the opening smoothly and the dose can be measured accurately.
- Tinctures, spot-application tonics and concentrates of active ingredients – aqueous and alcoholic contents where a precise amount is added to a formula or applied to the skin.
- Samples and testers – small vials with a dropper are easy to dispense from and the tamper-evident ring confirms the sample has not been opened.
The set is not suitable for thick oils, gels or emulsions – the narrow dropper opening lets them through slowly and unevenly.
Filling, cleaning and reuse
The vial is filled before inserting the dropper, up to the nominal volume, not to the neck. The nominal volume is the volume for which the vial is designed under normal filling conditions; the total capacity to the brim is greater. The difference provides clearance for the dropper itself, which occupies part of the neck, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If overfilled, the contents spill when pressing in the dropper and the cap will not seat properly.
Press the dropper evenly into the neck until it seats on the rim of the vial, then screw on the cap. If the dropper is not fully inserted, the cap cannot be tightened and the tamper-evident ring may tear when closing.
Before first filling, it is recommended to disinfect both parts with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and allow them to dry completely; do not insert a wet dropper into the vial. For personal use the dropper can be carefully removed after use, washed and reused. For selling a finished product, a new set is always recommended, as the tamper-evident ring is single-use and no longer fulfils its function once torn.
Concentrated essential oils and certain solvents may stress the plastics during prolonged contact. With such contents, we recommend verifying in a stability test whether the dropper and the inner liner of the cap remain dimensionally stable and tight.
Vials with the same neck type and ready-made vial + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal, dosing behaviour and compatibility of the packaging with the specific formulation. Both the PE cap and the PP dropper are recyclable plastics; before recycling, simply separate them from the glass vial.
Frequently asked questions
Which vials is the plastic dropper cap 18/410 suitable for?
For glass vials with an 18/410 neck thread, that is the common small vials used for essential oils, serums and tinctures. The neck type is listed in the specifications of each vial. The dropper is the longer version designed specifically for glass vials, but we recommend verifying the fit in the finished combination or on a sample, as neck dimensions may vary slightly between manufacturers.
How is the contents of a vial with a plastic dropper dispensed?
The vial is tilted or turned upside down and the contents flow through the dropper opening drop by drop. The dripping rate depends on the viscosity of the contents and how sharply the vial is tilted. The dropper stays in the neck, so it is not removed or replaced by any tool during dispensing; after dispensing, the vial is simply closed with the cap.
Is the plastic dropper cap suitable for essential oils?
Yes, the set is designed precisely for dispensing essential oils and fragrance compositions drop by drop. The dropper limits evaporation when open and the cap with its inner liner seals the opening when closed. For concentrated oils and compositions containing solvents, we recommend verifying in a stability test whether the plastic parts soften over time and whether the cap still seals.
Are the plastic dropper and cap 18/410 suitable for thick oils or gels?
No, the set is not suitable for thick oils, gels and emulsions. The narrow dropper opening is designed for liquid contents that flow out drop by drop; thicker products pass through it slowly and unevenly. For such contents, packaging with a pump or a wider neck is more appropriate. The dropper works best with essential oils, light oils, tinctures and aqueous concentrates.
How does the tamper-evident ring on the 18/410 cap work?
The tamper-evident ring is a perforated band on the lower edge of the cap that tears on first unscrewing and remains on the vial neck. The customer can thus see that the product has not been opened. The ring catches only on a vial that has a corresponding bead below the thread, so we recommend testing the function on the specific vial. Once opened, the ring is single-use.
Is the dropper set 18/410 also suitable for food products?
No, the set is not approved for contact with food. Both the dropper and the cap are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics, so they are appropriate for essential oils, facial oils, serums and tinctures intended for skin use. For cooking oils, syrups or other food products, we recommend choosing packaging and a closure that carry a food-contact certification listed in the specifications.
