Product description

A glass jar with amber glass, a black lid and an inner liner forms a complete set for filling creams, butters and balms with a nominal volume of 50 ml. The amber glass reduces light exposure, helping to protect contents containing vegetable oils, butters and sensitive active ingredients from accelerated oxidation and loss of fragrance. The lid with its sealing liner and the separate inner liner, which is placed directly on the surface of the product, together minimise contact between the contents and air and limit contamination of the rim during opening and transport.

The 50 ml volume corresponds to a standard packaging size for a facial cream, cream deodorant, solid balm or smaller body butter. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The declaration of conformity and technical documentation are available with the product.

What the set consists of and how it works

  • Glass jar – amber glass with a wide neck, easy to fill with a spatula or filling funnel and equally easy to scoop from. Glass does not react with oils, butters or common active ingredients and does not retain the scent of previous contents. Thanks to the weight of the glass, the jar stands steadily on a shelf.
  • Black plastic lid – a screw-on lid made of polypropylene with a foam sealing liner that seats on the neck and seals the container against leakage of thinner textures when tilted or during transport.
  • Inner liner – a white plastic disc placed on the surface of the product beneath the lid after filling. It holds the contents in place, reduces the layer of air above the cream and protects its surface from drying out between uses.

Suitable for products such as

  • facial and eye creams, day and night – the wide neck allows comfortable scooping and the dark glass protects the oils and antioxidants contained within
  • body butters and whipped butters in smaller packaging – the thick texture is easier to scoop from a jar than from a pump bottle
  • solid and semi-solid balms for lips, hands or heels, and ointments with beeswax – poured directly into the jar and allowed to set inside
  • cream deodorants and pomades – scooped with a finger or spatula through the wide neck, and the screw-on lid seals the container securely
  • facial masks and scrubs in smaller packaging for multiple uses

For thin water-based products such as tonics or facial waters, the jar is not suitable. Such contents belong in a bottle with a dropper or spray.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the jar is designed under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is always greater. The difference between them provides clearance for the inner liner and lid seal, and room for the contents to expand with changes in temperature. The jar should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim; otherwise the liner will push cream into the thread and the lid will not seal. Both values are listed in the product specifications.

With whipped butters and creams with an aerated volume, bear in mind that the contents will settle slightly after filling. Fill by weight, not by fill level, and leave free space below the inner liner.

What is useful to know when filling and using

  • Preparation before first filling – we recommend washing the jar, lid and inner liner, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing to dry completely. Residual moisture in an anhydrous balm shortens its stability.
  • Preservation of water-based creams – the jar with its wide neck is opened and the contents scooped out with fingers, so emulsions in it require a reliable preservation system. The packaging does not replace microbial stability.
  • Anhydrous products with essential oils – glass is resistant to them. With a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the lid's sealing liner in a long-term test with the specific formulation.
  • Reuse – the glass jar can withstand repeated washing and disinfection. After washing, inspect the lid and inner liner; the foam seal may retain the scent of the previous contents.
  • Labelling – the smooth body of the jar and the flat lid are both suitable for applying a label.
  • Other closures – lids with the same neck type and further ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the jar belongs in glass collection; dispose of the lid and liner separately in plastics.

Do not pour hot material into cold glass. A sudden temperature difference can cause the jar to crack. Allow balms and ointments to cool slightly before pouring, or pre-heat the jars to a temperature close to that of the contents.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass jar protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces exposure to both visible and UV light and slows the oxidation of oils, butters and sensitive active ingredients. The protection is not complete, so it is still recommended to store the jar away from direct sunlight. For contents containing vitamin C, retinol or unrefined oils, dark glass is a better choice than clear.
Why is the total volume of the 50 ml glass jar greater than the nominal volume?
The total volume to the brim includes clearance for the inner liner, the lid seal and expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The nominal volume of 50 ml is the quantity for which the jar is designed under normal filling conditions. If filled to the brim, the contents reach the thread, the lid does not seat properly and the product becomes contaminated during transport.
What is the inner liner in the glass jar for?
The inner liner is a plastic disc placed on the surface of the product before screwing on the lid. It reduces the layer of air above the cream, protects its surface from drying out and holds the contents in place during transport. With solid balms it can be omitted; with creams and butters we recommend using it and replacing it after each opening.
Is the 50 ml glass jar suitable for both water-based creams and anhydrous balms?
Yes, the jar is suitable for both emulsions and anhydrous products. Water-based creams in it require a reliable preservation system, as they are scooped out with fingers through the wide neck. Anhydrous balms are poured into the jar after slight cooling to prevent the glass from cracking due to thermal shock. For thin water-based products such as tonics, the jar is not suitable.
Can the 50 ml glass jar be reused and how should it be cleaned?
Yes, the glass jar can withstand repeated washing, disinfection with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and higher temperatures during washing. Wash the lid and inner liner with warm water and dish soap and check the foam seal, which may retain the scent of the previous contents. Allow all parts to dry completely before refilling.
