Product description

The plastic cap with tamper-evident ring and dropper insert is a complete two-piece closure set for glass vials with an 18 mm neck. It consists of a black smooth cap with a first-opening tamper-evident ring and a transparent dropper insert that fits directly into the neck of the vial. The result is a closure that securely seals the vial while also allowing the contents to be dispensed drop by drop, without any additional tool.

It is suitable wherever precise measurement of small quantities is needed: for essential oils, fragrance oil blends, oil serums, facial and hair oils, tinctures, or concentrated active ingredients that are dispensed a few drops at a time. The black cap complements both amber and clear vials, and the smooth surface is easy to keep clean.

How the set works

  • Dropper insert in the neck – the transparent plastic dropper insert seats into the neck of the vial and narrows the outlet opening. When the vial is turned upside down, the contents flow out drop by drop rather than in a stream, so even a few drops can be measured into a formula or onto the palm.
  • Tamper-evident ring – the cap has a ring that separates when first unscrewed. The customer can immediately see whether the product has already been opened. This is a tamper-evidence feature; the closure is not declared as a child-resistant safety seal.
  • One set, two functions – the cap and dropper insert are matched to the same neck type, so there is no need to check whether they will seal together. Once the cap is tightened, it presses against the dropper insert and the vial remains closed even when inverted.
  • Short dropper insert – it reaches only shallowly into the neck, so it takes up minimal space inside the vial and seats well even in smaller volumes.

Use and filling

The set is designed for glass vials with an 18 mm thread from the Handymade range. The procedure is straightforward: fill the vial, press the dropper insert evenly into the neck until it is flush with the rim, then screw on the cap. When tightened, the cap rests against the dropper insert and secures it in place. The tamper-evident ring detaches only when first opened.

It is important to fill only up to the nominal volume of the vial, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the vial is designed under normal filling conditions. The total capacity up to the neck is greater, and the difference provides a reserve for the dropper insert and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If the vial is filled right to the brim, pressing in the dropper insert will displace some of the contents, and the cap may then fail to seal properly.

Insert the dropper insert into the neck only after filling the vial, in one movement and with even pressure. If seated at an angle, a gap may remain between the dropper insert and the glass, which will only become apparent when the vial is inverted.

The size and speed of drops depend on the viscosity of the contents. Thin liquids such as essential oils, alcoholic tinctures or light dry oils flow quickly and dose precisely. Thick oils and viscous serums are released through the dropper insert slowly, and at low temperatures it may be necessary to warm the vial briefly in the palm. For thick textures, dispensing with a pump is more suitable.

Good to know

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics; a declaration of conformity is available on the product page. It is not approved for contact with food, and is therefore not suitable for sealing homemade oils, syrups or infusions intended for consumption.

Before first use, we recommend rinsing and disinfecting both the cap and the dropper insert with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing them to dry completely. Any residual water in the dropper insert would otherwise end up in the anhydrous contents. The plastic parts are not intended for sterilisation by boiling or in an oven.

Concentrated essential oils and solvents can soften or discolour the plastic with prolonged contact. Before filling a larger batch, leave one vial with the finished formulation to stand for several weeks and check whether the dropper insert and cap change shape, colour or seal integrity.

Once the tamper-evident ring has been removed, the cap remains fully functional but no longer indicates whether the product has been opened. The label area remains on the body of the vial; the cap is smooth with no printing. After use, the plastic parts should be sorted separately from the glass packaging as plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Which vials are compatible with the plastic tamper-evident cap and 18 mm dropper insert?
The set is designed for glass vials with an 18 mm thread from the Handymade range. The dropper insert fits directly into the neck and the cap screws onto it, so the vial must have exactly this neck type. With a different neck diameter, the dropper insert will not seat properly and the closure will not seal.
Is the dropper insert suitable for dispensing essential oils?
Yes, thin liquids such as essential oils, fragrance blends or tinctures are dispensed through the dropper insert accurately, drop by drop. With concentrated essential oils, however, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic in prolonged contact with the specific blend, as some components may over time soften or discolour the plastic.
Can a thick oil or serum also be dispensed through the dropper insert?
Yes, but slowly. Thick oils and viscous serums flow through the narrow opening drop by drop only with a delay, and at low temperatures may stop entirely. For liquid to medium-viscosity oils the set is suitable; for thick textures, a pump is recommended instead.
Is the plastic cap with tamper-evident ring a child-resistant closure?
No, the tamper-evident feature on this cap is designed for first-opening verification. The ring separates when first unscrewed, so the customer can see whether the product has already been opened. The closure is not declared as child-resistant, so do not label it as such.
Why should a vial with a dropper insert not be filled to the brim?
Because once pressed in, the dropper insert takes up some of the space in the neck and displaces excess contents. The vial is filled only up to the nominal volume stated in its specifications. The reserve between the nominal and total volume is intended for the dropper insert and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, so that the closure remains sealed.
Can the cap and dropper insert be reused?
The cap yes — once the tamper-evident ring has been removed, it remains fully functional, it simply no longer indicates first opening. The dropper insert is harder to remove from the neck and may not reseat tightly after removal, so always inspect it before the next filling. For products intended for sale, we recommend using a new dropper insert for each new filling.
