Product description

The 200 ml brown plastic bottle with 24/410 neck finish is a lightweight and shatter-resistant PET container designed for filling liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic preparations. The brown colouration of the material reduces light transmission, making it particularly suitable for contents sensitive to light: vegetable oils, oil serums, tonics, hydrolats, hair and body waters, and liquid soaps. The 200 ml volume is practical for both home use and small-scale batch filling, where glass is unnecessarily heavy or unsuitable for bathroom use.

The bottle is suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity and technical documentation are available with the product.

Key benefits

  • Light protection – brown PET transmits less light than clear plastic, helping to slow down oxidation of oils and fading of coloured or botanical ingredients.
  • Low weight and drop resistance – compared to glass, the bottle is significantly lighter and will not shatter when dropped, making it suitable for the shower, travel, and shipping to customers.
  • Standard 24/410 neck finish – one of the most widely used thread sizes, compatible with a wide range of caps, pumps, and sprayers.
  • Easy labelling – the smooth cylindrical body allows labels to be applied without wrinkles; bottle dimensions are listed in the product specifications.

Nominal and total volume

The bottle has a nominal volume of 200 ml. This is the volume for which the container is designed for standard filling and which is stated on the label. The total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is larger; the exact value is listed in the specifications. The difference between them is headspace for the inner part of the closure, the pump dip tube or sprayer tube, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Overfilling risks the contents leaking when the closure is screwed on, or the closure not seating correctly.

Closures and ready-made combinations

Closures with the same neck finish, i.e. 24/410, as well as ready-made combinations of the bottle with a cap, pump, or sprayer are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying seal integrity and dispensing performance with the specific formulation, particularly for thicker emulsions and products containing alcohol.

Before the first fill, rinse the bottle, sanitise if needed with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the neck shortens the shelf life of aqueous preparations that lack sufficient preservation.

Suitable for products such as

  • Vegetable and massage oils, oil serums – light-sensitive contents, particularly oils high in unsaturated fatty acids, which yellow more quickly when exposed to light.
  • Tonics, hydrolats, and facial waters – aqueous preparations used with a sprayer or cap.
  • Liquid soaps, shower gels, and shampoos – used with a pump.
  • Body milks and light emulsions – fluid to medium-viscosity O/W emulsions that can be poured or pumped.
  • Hair waters and rinses – including preparations with a lower alcohol content.

Good to know

PET and essential oils. PET tolerates formulations containing essential oils or fragrance compositions at standard cosmetic usage levels. With concentrated essential oils, higher solvent content, or high-percentage alcohol, it is advisable to test the container's behaviour with the finished formulation, as some ingredients may soften or cloud the material. For neat essential oils, glass is the safer choice.

Temperature. PET is not intended for filling with hot contents. Allow emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature before filling; otherwise the bottle may deform or contract as the contents cool.

Reuse. The bottle can be washed and reused after emptying, provided it is not damaged, clouded, or retaining odour from the previous contents. When switching to a different type of preparation, thorough washing and sanitisation are recommended.

Recycling. The bottle is made from PET, which is one of the most commonly recycled plastics. Before disposal, empty the bottle and separate the closure if it is made from a different material.

Brown PET reduces light exposure but does not replace dark storage or an antioxidant in the formulation. Protect oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids by both means.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown PET transmits significantly less light than clear plastic, slowing oxidation of oils and fading of coloured ingredients. It is not, however, a complete light barrier. Preparations that are particularly light-sensitive should be stored away from direct sunlight even in a brown bottle, and supplemented with an antioxidant.
What is the actual fill capacity of the 200 ml plastic bottle?
The 200 ml plastic bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 200 ml, even though it can physically hold more up to the brim. The difference is headspace for the closure, the pump dip tube or sprayer tube, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Filling the bottle to the neck risks the contents leaking when screwed shut or the closure not seating correctly, so this headspace should not be used.
Is the brown PET bottle suitable for oils containing essential oils?
Yes, the brown PET bottle is suitable for standard massage and facial oils containing essential oils at cosmetic usage levels. Neat essential oils or blends with a high proportion of solvents or alcohol may soften or cloud the material over time. In such cases, we recommend testing the container's behaviour with the finished formulation or choosing glass.
Can a warm emulsion be filled into a PET bottle?
No, a PET bottle should only be filled with cooled contents. A hot emulsion or gel can deform the walls, and as the contents cool the bottle may contract, compromising the seal of the closure. Allow emulsions to cool to room temperature before transferring them to the bottle and closing.
How should the plastic bottle be prepared before the first fill, and can it be reused?
Before the first fill, rinse the bottle, sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. Reuse is possible provided the bottle is not damaged, clouded, or retaining odour from the previous contents. Repeat the washing and sanitisation process with every change of contents, particularly for aqueous preparations.
Which closure fits the plastic bottle with a 24/410 neck finish?
Any closure with a 24/410 neck finish fits the bottle — cap, pump, or sprayer with the same thread. The choice depends on the viscosity of the contents: a sprayer for aqueous preparations, a pump for milks, gels, and liquid soaps, a cap for oils. Compatible closures and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range.
