Product description

Brown plastic bottle, 24/410, 300 ml

Brown PET bottle designed for liquid and semi-liquid preparations that require protection from light. Suitable as both a retail and home-use container for tonics, hydrolats, body lotions, shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, massage and body oils, and liquid soaps. The 300 ml volume corresponds to the standard size of bathroom products for everyday use.

The brown colouring reduces light transmission, which is beneficial for vegetable oils, preparations with essential oils, or those containing more sensitive active ingredients. PET is lightweight and shatterproof, making it practical for shower use, travel, and shipping finished products to customers. The bottle is suitable for both cosmetic and technical applications.

Key benefits

  • Light protection – the brown material reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, supporting the stability of colour, fragrance, and sensitive ingredients.
  • Lightweight and shatterproof – unlike glass, it weighs little and will not break when dropped, which is important in the bathroom and during transport.
  • Standard neck finish – a range of closures for the same thread type is available in the range, to suit the nature of the contents.
  • Practical volume – 300 ml is a suitable size for lotions, gels, shampoos, and oils for several weeks of use.
  • Recyclable material – PET is commonly recycled and belongs in sorted plastic waste collection once empty.

Filling and bottle volume

The bottle has a stated nominal volume and total brim-fill volume, both listed in the parameters. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the container is designed under normal filling conditions. The total volume is the physical capacity up to the neck. The difference between them provides a reserve for the closure, pump, or sprayer and for expansion of the contents when temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle is harder to close once the cap is fitted, and the contents may leak when squeezed.

Fill thicker lotions and gels slowly and at room temperature to prevent air from entering the contents and foam from forming at the neck, which would prevent the closure from seating properly.

Suitable for products such as

  • Tonics and hydrolats – combined with a sprayer as a facial mist or hair tonic.
  • Body lotions and shower gels – with a pump or dispensing cap for bathroom use.
  • Shampoos and conditioners – a lightweight container that handles the damp environment of the shower.
  • Massage and body oils – the brown material protects oils from light, which accelerates their degradation.
  • Liquid soaps and cleansing preparations – with a pump as a dispenser at the sink.

Choosing a closure

Closures with the same neck finish as listed in the parameters, as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying leak-tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation. A pump has a different dip-tube length for a thick gel than for a thin oil; a sprayer is suitable only for low-viscosity liquids.

Useful notes for working with the bottle

Before the first fill, the container should be washed and sanitised with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. Residual water in the container shortens the shelf life of water-based preparations and puts pressure on the preservative system.

PET is compatible with water-based and oil-based contents and common cosmetic formulations. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils, solvents, or concentrated alcohol, it is advisable to test one bottle first. Check whether the material becomes cloudy, softens, or loses its gloss. Hot mixtures should not be filled into PET. Allow the contents to cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle may deform.

The bottle is not intended for sterilisation by boiling or for filling with hot products. At temperatures above normal room temperature, PET softens and may permanently deform.

Reuse is possible if the bottle is thoroughly cleaned and the previous contents have not left a residual odour. Traces of fragrant substances are harder to remove from plastic than from glass. When selling finished products, the bottle must be labelled; usable label dimensions are listed in the parameters.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown PET bottle protect its contents from light?
Yes, the brown colouring of PET reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents, supporting the stability of colour, fragrance, and sensitive ingredients. It does not block light completely, so finished products containing sensitive ingredients should be stored away from direct sunlight even in a dark container. For oils, hydrolats, and preparations with active ingredients, a brown bottle is a better choice than a clear one.
Can I fill a 24/410 PET bottle with oil or a preparation containing essential oils?
Yes, PET is suitable for vegetable oils and common cosmetic preparations containing a standard proportion of essential oils. For mixtures with a high concentration of essential oils or solvents, test one bottle first to check whether the material becomes cloudy or softens. Pure essential oil concentrates should not be stored in plastic.
How much liquid does the 300 ml bottle actually hold, and how far should it be filled?
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, i.e. to 300 ml, not to the brim. The total brim-fill volume is slightly larger, and the difference serves as a reserve for the closure, the pump dip-tube, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Exact values are listed in the product parameters.
How do I prepare a PET bottle before the first fill?
Wash and rinse the bottle, sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water would dilute the contents and strain the preservative system of water-based preparations. PET cannot be sanitised by boiling or with hot water, as the material would deform.
What closure fits the brown 24/410 PET bottle?
Any closure with the same neck finish as listed in the parameters will fit the bottle. The choice depends on the viscosity of the contents: a sprayer handles only low-viscosity liquids, a pump is suitable for gels and lotions as well, and a screw cap suits products that are poured. Ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available in the Handymade range.
Can the brown PET bottle be reused?
Yes, after thorough washing and sanitising the bottle can be refilled. This is most suitable for the same or a similar product type, as plastic retains the fragrance of previous contents longer than glass. If the material shows scratches, cloudiness, or softening, discard the bottle in sorted plastic waste collection.
