Product description

The 15 ml glass bottle and dropper form a set for filling with liquid products that are dispensed by the drop. The frosted glass softens the light and leaves the fill level visible only as an outline. The dropper measures out a few drops without tilting the bottle and without your fingers touching the contents. It is best suited to facial serums, oil serums for the face and eye area, essential oil blends in a carrier oil, tinctures or small samples from which only a few drops are taken at a time. The bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What the set consists of

The bottle is made of frosted glass with an 18/410 neck finish. The dropper has a black and silver cap made of aluminium and plastic, a glass tube and a silicone bulb. The tube length is matched to this bottle, so it reaches almost to the bottom and you can draw out the contents even when the level is low.

The glass of the bottle and the tube does not react with cosmetic oils, alcohol or water-based solutions. The silicone bulb also comes into contact with the contents. With products that have a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, check after a few weeks of use whether the bulb is becoming soft or sticky.

Dispensing with the dropper

Squeeze the bulb, immerse the tube in the contents and release the bulb to draw up a dose. The drops are then applied directly to the skin or to the palm. Thin water-based serums and tinctures are drawn up quickly and drip on their own. Thicker oils and serums with a gel consistency are drawn up more slowly, and you need to press the bulb lightly when applying. After each use, screw the dropper back in so that the contents do not oxidise and the alcohol or fragrance components do not evaporate.

Do not draw the contents all the way into the bulb. Liquid that gets into it is difficult to rinse out and, with oil products, gradually impairs the seal. Squeeze the bulb only enough to fill the glass tube.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume of 15 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck. The difference between the two is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which pushes part of the contents upwards when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

If you fill to the brim, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the dropper is fitted, and the outside of the bottle becomes greasy or sticky. With oil serums, this also makes it harder to tighten the cap.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Rinse the glass tube of the dropper with alcohol; it is enough to wipe the bulb on the outside and leave it to air.
  • Reuse – the glass bottle can be used many times. The dropper can too, after thorough cleaning. However, when you change the product or after longer use with oils, it is better to replace it with a new one, because oil residues in the tube and in the silicone bulb affect the scent and purity of the new contents.
  • Glass and temperature – fill the products once they have cooled. Hot contents can damage the glass and also impair the seal of the plastic parts of the dropper.
  • Recycling – the empty bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper is made of several materials, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does a frosted glass bottle protect the contents from light?
A frosted glass bottle protects the contents from light only partially. The frosted surface of the glass scatters and softens the light, but it does not block it as effectively as amber or blue glass. For serums and oils stored in a drawer or out of direct sunlight, the protection is sufficient. For ingredients that change quickly in light, such as unrefined oils with limited stability or some vitamin serums, a dark bottle is more suitable.
How much should you actually fill a 15 ml dropper bottle with?
Fill the dropper bottle up to the nominal volume of 15 ml. The brimful capacity of the glass is higher, and the exact value is given in the product parameters. This difference serves as a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill up to the neck, the contents are pushed out through the thread when you screw the dropper in, and the outside of the bottle becomes greasy.
Is the dropper suitable for both oil-based and water-based serums?
Yes, the dropper with a glass tube works with both oil-based and water-based products. Water-based serums and tinctures are drawn up quickly and drip on their own, while thick oils are drawn up more slowly and you need to press the bulb slightly when applying. With formulations that have a high proportion of essential oils, watch the condition of the silicone bulb and replace the dropper if its elasticity changes.
How do I clean the bottle and the dropper before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water and a cleaning product, rinse it, disinfect it with alcohol and leave it to dry upside down. Rinse the glass tube of the dropper several times with alcohol by drawing it up and squeezing it out, wipe the bulb on the outside and leave it to dry freely. Oil residues are harder to remove, so after oils it is better to use a new dropper.
Can I use a different closure on this bottle instead of the dropper?
Yes, the bottle has an 18/410 neck finish, and other closures with the same neck type fit it. Handymade also offers ready-made bottle and closure combinations. If you put together your own combination, check before filling a full production run that the closure seals properly and that it dispenses the chosen formulation as you expect.
Is the glass bottle with a dropper also suitable for food?
No, the set is not declared for contact with food. The bottle and the dropper have a declaration of suitability for cosmetic products, so do not use them for homemade oils, syrups or herbal infusions intended for consumption. For these purposes, we offer packaging with a food-contact certificate.
