Product description

Glass bottle, square vial, 30 ml is a small container made of amber glass that protects the contents from light. It is suitable for cosmetics with sensitive ingredients: facial serums, facial and body oils, tinctures and herbal extracts, i.e. preparations whose active ingredients, carrier oils or essential oils oxidise more rapidly when exposed to light.

The square shape with flat sides gives the bottle stability, makes it easy to hold, and allows efficient stacking in boxes or on a shelf when storing larger quantities. Vial refers to the shape, not the intended use. The packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the relevant regulatory requirements; the declaration can be found in the product parameters.

What the bottle is suitable for

  • Serums and concentrates – a 30 ml volume corresponds to several weeks of use for a facial serum, so the contents do not remain open for long.
  • Facial and hair oils – vegetable oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids are sensitive to light; dark glass slows their yellowing and the development of an unpleasant odour.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass is resistant to ethanol and essential oils; no substances leach from the container and the packaging is not damaged.
  • Samples and test batches – the small volume is convenient when trying out a new formulation or for gift and travel packaging.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume the packaging is intended for during standard filling, and this is why the bottle is labelled as 30 ml. Total brim volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is always greater. The difference provides space for the cap, dropper or pump that reach into the bottle, as well as room for the contents to expand with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

If you plan to use a dropper or pump, fill the bottle slightly below the nominal level and close it as a test. You will quickly see whether the closure pushes the contents out through the neck and how much space it actually takes up.

Choosing a closure

The bottle has a standard thread, the type of which is listed in the parameters. Closures with the same neck type — caps, droppers, pumps and sprayers — as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing method with your specific formulation, as a thick oil, a water-based serum and an alcohol tincture dispense differently from a dropper or pump.

Useful information

  • Preparation before first use – wash the bottle with warm water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely, neck down.
  • Reuse – glass can be thoroughly cleaned and used again; it does not absorb the scent or colour of the previous contents. With each new fill, replace at least the sealing part of the cap or the dropper insert, as rubber and plastic components wear faster than glass.
  • Glass and heat – the bottle can handle filling with warmer contents, but sudden thermal shock – such as hot liquid in cold glass or freezing a full bottle – may cause the glass to crack. Allow the contents to cool to at least lukewarm temperature before filling.
  • Labelling – the flat sides of the square bottle are better suited for labels than a cylindrical shape; the label lies flat and the text stays straight. Label dimensions for your label design can be found in the product specifications.
  • Recycling – glass goes into glass collection; unscrew the cap before disposal and sort it according to its material.

Glass is breakable. When filling larger quantities of bottles, work on a soft surface and transport full bottles in a box with dividers or padding to prevent them from knocking against each other.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 30 ml amber glass vial protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass transmits significantly less light than clear glass and slows light-induced oxidation of oils, vitamins and essential oils. It is not a complete barrier, however. Store finished products with sensitive active ingredients away from direct sunlight and in a cooler environment.
How much can actually be filled into the 30 ml vial?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is greater; this difference is the allowance for a dropper, pump or cap and for the contents expanding with temperature changes. When using a dropper, it is advisable to fill a little less so that the contents are not forced out when the dropper is screwed in.
Is the 30 ml square glass bottle suitable for tinctures and alcohol-based extracts?
Yes, glass is resistant to ethanol, essential oils and carrier oils and does not react with them. Amber glass also protects alcohol-based extracts and tinctures from light. For alcohol-based contents, choose a closure with an alcohol-resistant seal to prevent the contents from evaporating over time, and verify the seal before filling an entire batch.
How to prepare a glass vial before the first fill?
Wash the bottle with warm water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave to dry completely, neck down. Thorough drying is especially important for oils and anhydrous products, where residual water has nowhere to escape and may promote microbial growth. The same procedure applies when reusing the bottle.
What closure is suitable for the 30 ml glass vial?
The bottle takes closures with the same thread type as listed in the parameters — caps, droppers, pumps and sprayers. Droppers or pumps are most commonly chosen for thick oils and serums; a sprayer for water-based tonics. With a custom combination, verify the seal and dispensing with your specific contents.
