Product description
A dark amber glass jar, 25 ml with a gold lid, is a small cosmetic container for creams, balms and concentrated preparations applied with a finger or spatula. It is a ready-made complete set – an amber glass jar, a shiny gold lid and an inner insert – so the packaging is ready to fill without searching for a suitable closure.
Dark amber glass reduces light transmission, making the jar particularly suitable for formulations with sensitive ingredients: eye creams with active substances, balms with plant oils prone to oxidation, or ointments with essential oils. Glass is also chemically inert, so the contents do not change in scent or composition due to the packaging. The 25 ml volume corresponds to travel packaging, a sample or a preparation used in small doses.
How the complete set works
- Glass jar – the wide neck makes it easy to fill thick creams and to scoop out the contents, and the heavier glass gives the packaging stability on the shelf and in the hand.
- Gold lid – a plastic screw-on lid with an inner seal that, when tightened, fits against the neck and limits the drying out of the contents. The shiny gold finish gives the packaging an appearance suitable for retail and gift-giving.
- Inner insert – a thin plastic disc placed on the surface of the contents beneath the lid. It separates the contents from the lid and keeps the surface smooth and clean until first use, which is particularly appreciated during transport and retail.
Suitable products
- Eye and facial creams – the small volume corresponds to the consumption of concentrated preparations, and the dark glass protects sensitive active ingredients.
- Balms and ointments – anhydrous formulations based on butters, waxes and oils, where glass does not react with essential oils or with a high proportion of oil phase.
- Solid perfumes and solid deodorants – the jar neck is wide enough for comfortable finger application.
- Lip scrubs and small sugar or salt scrubs – glass withstands coarser particles without scratching, which would eventually show on plastic.
- Samples and travel packaging – the same packaging in a smaller volume if you sell your main product in larger jars.
Nominal and total volume
A distinction is made between the nominal and total volume of the jar. Nominal volume is the amount for which the packaging is intended for standard filling, and it is this figure that appears in the name. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides clearance for the inner insert and lid. The jar should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the contents will be pressed onto the thread when closing and the lid will not seal.
Preparation, filling and reuse
Before the first filling, we recommend washing both the jar and the lid, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing them to dry completely. Moisture remaining in the packaging is the most common cause of early deterioration of anhydrous balms. Creams and emulsions are filled when already cooled, while balms and ointments are filled while still liquid – gently pre-warm the glass before pouring in hot material to prevent the container from cracking due to thermal shock. The inner insert is placed only on the solidified or settled surface of the contents.
When hot-filling balms, allow the material to solidify in the jar without the lid. This prevents water condensation on the inner side of the lid, which would otherwise enter the anhydrous product.
The jar can be washed after emptying and used again. Glass withstands regular cleaning with detergent and disinfection with alcohol. The inner seal of the lid and the plastic insert will absorb the scent of the contents over time, so when changing formulations it is advisable to replace at least the insert.
Good to know
- Glass and heat – the packaging is not designed for sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot material into cold glass, or place a jar straight from the refrigerator onto a hot surface.
- Labelling – the jar has a straight wall suitable for a wrap-around label, and the gold lid also allows for a top label.
- Closures – the lid is included in the set. If you wish to combine the jar with a different closure, you can find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend testing the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
- Cosmetic suitability – all components of the set are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity is available on the product page. The set is intended for cosmetic preparations.
- Recycling – the jar goes into glass recycling, the lid with insert into plastic recycling. Before disposal, simply empty the container and separate the components.
The gold lid and inner insert are made of plastic. For anhydrous formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend verifying in advance whether the contents might affect the lid's finish or the seal.
