Product description
This small glass 5 ml roll-on bottle is designed for liquid products applied directly to the skin by rolling: fragrance oils, essential oil blends in a carrier oil, oil serums for the eye area or nail cuticles, and refreshing blends for the temples and wrists. Clear glass shows the colour and the remaining amount of the contents and does not absorb fragrance components, so after washing you can reuse the bottle for a different fragrance without any lingering odour. The set is supplied complete with an applicator with a plastic roller ball and a silver cap. Once filled, simply assemble it and it is ready to use.
What the set consists of
- 5 ml glass bottle – clear, with a neck designed for a roll-on applicator. Glass does not react with oils or fragrance components and does not let the scent escape.
- Applicator with a plastic roller ball – a polypropylene ball in a matte clear finish. When rolled, it applies a thin layer of the product and feels less cold on the skin than a metal ball.
- Silver cap – a plastic cap with an aluminium layer in a silver shade. It screws onto the thread of the bottle, protects the roller ball from dust and dirt, and limits evaporation of the contents.
What it is suitable for
With daily application to small areas, a volume of 5 ml usually lasts several weeks. It is therefore suitable for fragrance oils and oil-based perfumes, which are dosed precisely onto pulse points by rolling, for aromatherapy blends diluted in jojoba oil or fractionated coconut oil, and for targeted oil serums for the cuticles, lips or eye area. Because of its small volume, it is also used as a sample or tester when selling a larger pack.
The contents must be fluid enough for the ball to pick them up and transfer them to the skin. Oils, oil-based perfumes and thin serums work without any problems. The ball will not pick up thick balms, butters or gels with high viscosity, and the applicator will become blocked.
Very thin contents, especially aqueous solutions and alcohol-based perfumes, may leak around the ball when rolled or when stored lying down. Before filling a whole batch, we recommend testing one piece with your specific formulation, leaving it lying on its side for a few days and checking for leaks.
Filling and nominal volume
The nominal volume of 5 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume up to the rim of the neck is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the roller ball applicator, which is pressed into the neck after filling and takes up part of the space, and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill up to the nominal volume, not up to the rim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents squirt out when the applicator is inserted and contaminate the thread, so the cap then does not seat properly.
Before first filling, wash the bottle, the ball and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product encourages the growth of microorganisms and spoils the fragrance. A dropper, a small syringe without a needle or a narrow funnel has proved effective for filling such a small neck. After filling, press the applicator straight into the neck until it locks firmly in place, and screw on the cap.
Turn the finished roll-on upside down for a few seconds and roll it a few times across your palm. The ball is wetted by the contents and applies evenly on first use, without a dry start.
Good to know
Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. For longer storage, keep blends containing essential oils, vegetable oils prone to oxidation or light-sensitive dyes out of direct sunlight or in a box. With a small volume that is used up within a few weeks, the effect of light is usually negligible. Dark glass is more suitable for long-term storage of sensitive blends.
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not leave it in direct sunlight in a car, where the contents expand and press on the applicator.
The set is reusable. Pry out the roller ball applicator with a thin flat tool and wash all parts in warm water with a cleaning product; when changing fragrance, we also recommend rinsing with ethanol. After repeated removal, the applicator may sit more loosely in the neck, so check the tightness again when filling next time.
All three parts of the set are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product. The set is intended for cosmetic products.
When sorting waste, separate the parts: the bottle goes with glass, the ball and the cap with plastics.
You can find ready-made sets with other cap colours or with a metal roller ball for the same neck type in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the applicator with your specific formulation.
