Whipped body butter with orange and clove is a soft, nourishing butter that melts on contact with the skin. Try creating a silky whipped butter with us that pampers your skin and evokes a cosy festive atmosphere. It combines the warming aroma of clove and blood orange, making it feel like a little comfort ritual on long cold days. The texture is ultra-light, absorbs without a greasy film and leaves the skin soft and radiant.

About this recipe

This is an anhydrous (water-free) whipped body butter — it contains only oils and butters, no water phase. A rich blend of shea, mango and coconut butter is complemented by a light emollient, chamomile macerate and a Christmas fragrance of orange, mandarin and clove. The recipe is divided into four phases: A — butters and coconut oil, B — light oils, C — fragrance and antioxidant extract, D — the powdered ingredient and vitamin E, which are worked in only during whipping.

Why there is no preservative: the recipe is water-free, so without water microbial growth practically does not occur and a preservative is not necessary. Just be careful not to introduce moisture during use.

Key ingredients in the recipe

Below we go through the individual components of the recipe and explain why each ingredient is there and what it brings to the final texture and fragrance.

Shea butter, unrefined

Shea butter forms a nourishing base rich in fatty acids and vitamins A and E; it regenerates dry skin and creates a protective film. If you use unrefined shea butter, expect its slightly nutty to smoky aroma.

Shea butter with borututu root, unrefined

It adds a delicate golden hue and antioxidant action; it supports skin regeneration and the luxurious character of the formula.

Mango butter, refined

It softens, improves spreadability and helps achieve an airy, smooth structure without a greasy feel.

Coco-caprylate/Caprate

It is a light, plant-based emollient that reduces greasiness and provides a subtle “silicone feel” effect.

Modified rice starch, powder

It reduces greasiness and leaves the skin with a powdery, silky finish. It is added to the semi-cooled mixture only during whipping.

Other ingredients

Coconut oil, virgin, cold-pressed, ORGANIC softens, supports the absorption of active substances and lends a creamy consistency.

Chamomile, macerate in sunflower oil soothes irritated or dry skin and harmonises the overall effect of the formula.

Vitamin E, tocopherol, liquid 96 % is an antioxidant that prolongs the shelf life of oils and supports skin regeneration.

Essential oil, blood orange brings a fresh, sweet aroma that uplifts and adds citrus energy. Essential oil, mandarin – clementine softens the orange scent, adds freshness and harmonises the note. Essential oil, clove forms the spicy heart of the whole fragrance — a warming note that complements the sweetness of the citrus fruits and creates a Christmas atmosphere.

Rosemary CO₂ extract ORGANIC acts as an antioxidant that protects the butter from oxidation and underscores the freshness of the citrus notes.

Formulation (100 g)

The ingredient amounts are given in percentages by weight, so they correspond to a batch of 100 g of finished butter. The ingredients are divided into four phases — A is melted in a water bath, B is added to the melted butters, C only at approx. 40 °C and D to the semi-cooled mixture during whipping.

Method

  1. Oil base Phase A + Bapprox. 70 °C

Melt all the ingredients of phase A in a water bath (approx. 70 °C). Add Coco-caprylate/Caprate and the chamomile macerate, stir and let cool slightly.

  2. Fragrance and actives Phase Capprox. 40 °C

At approx. 40 °C add the essential oils and the rosemary CO₂ extract. Gently stir so that the fragrance disperses evenly.

  3. Cooling

Place the oil base in the fridge or briefly in the freezer until it starts to set. The consistency should be firm around the edges but creamy in the centre.

  4. Whipping and finishing Phase D

Add the rice starch and vitamin E to the semi-cooled mixture. Whip with a mixer until the mixture acquires an airy, foamy texture. If necessary, repeat the cooling and whipping.

  5. Filling and storage

Fill the finished butter into clean jars and store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. With proper storage, it will keep for several months.

How to use

A light, airy and gently aromatic whipped butter that leaves the skin hydrated, supple and delicately scented with a warm blend of orange and clove. Ideal as winter care after a shower or bath and at the same time as a handmade gift.

Frequently asked questions about the recipe

Practical questions about whipped butter — shelf life, preservation, texture and fragrance variations.

How long does whipped shea butter last?

When properly stored in a cool, dry place, it lasts 6 to 9 months. Vitamin E slows down the oxidation of the oils and helps maintain the fragrance and colour of the formula.

Why doesn’t the recipe contain a preservative?

The recipe is anhydrous (water-free) — it contains only oils and butters. Without water, microbial growth practically does not occur, so a preservative is not necessary. Be careful not to introduce moisture during use.

Does shea butter hydrate the skin?

Shea butter does not hydrate with water, but acts as an emollient and mild occlusive — it softens, smooths and helps reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Why does the butter sometimes separate or lose its fluffiness?

If the product is exposed to heat and then solidifies again, it may lose its whipped texture. Store it away from heat and sunlight; re-whipping usually helps.

Can the recipe be adjusted for oilier or drier skin?

Yes. For oilier skin, reduce the coconut oil and add more light emollient; for very dry skin, add a richer butter (e.g. cocoa butter) and apply to damp skin.

Can I change the fragrance (e.g. cinnamon, vanilla)?

Yes, stick to the recommended dermal usage limits. Vanilla, cardamom or a drop of cinnamon work well.
