Product description

A brown plastic 500 ml bottle and a black screw cap 28/410 form a ready-to-fill set for liquids and semi-liquids in larger quantities. The brown PET filters light, making this bottle suitable for plant and massage oils, hydrolats, tonics or tinctures that won't be used up in just a few days. The set is approved for direct food contact and declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. It can therefore be used for cosmetic semi-finished products as well as home oils, syrups or herbal extracts.

What the set is suitable for

  • Oil preparations – body and massage oils, oil blends for soap or balms. A half-litre makes sense where smaller bottles would need frequent refilling.
  • Water and alcohol-based contents – hydrolats, facial tonics, tinctures and extracts, for which the brown plastic limits light exposure.
  • Semi-finished goods in production – liquid soap, shampoo or shower gel prepared in advance and stored before being poured into smaller retail packaging.
  • Food – home oils, vinegars, syrups and extracts. Both the bottle and cap have food contact certification.

Volume, filling and closure

Nominal volume 500 ml is the quantity the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. The actual volume to the neck is larger, and the difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of contents when temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise overflow may occur when closing or during transport.

The black screw cap made of HDPE closes the bottle with a single turn, and the set is ready to fill without any further cap selection. If you need a different dispensing option, caps with the same neck type 28/410 and complete bottle-and-cap combinations are available in the Handymade range.

Before filling a larger batch, fill one unit, tighten the cap and lay the bottle on its side for at least a day. This way you can verify the seal integrity with your specific contents in good time.

What's worth knowing

  • Preparation before first filling – wash both the bottle and cap and allow them to dry completely before filling.
  • Contents temperature – PET deforms under heat, so let hot mixtures cool before filling. Store the filled bottle at 5 – 30 °C away from direct sunlight.
  • Aggressive chemicals and solvents – this packaging is not intended for them. With blends containing a higher proportion of essential oils, fill one unit first and check the bottle wall and cap after a few days.
  • Reuse – after thorough washing and drying, both the bottle and cap can be reused. Check that the cap thread still seats properly and seals when tightened.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the cap of HDPE; both plastics are among commonly recycled materials.

This packaging is not intended for aggressive chemicals, concentrated solvents or hot contents. Such use may soften or deform the plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown 500 ml plastic bottle protect its contents from light?
Yes, the brown colouring of PET filters light and slows down the changes that light triggers in the contents. Plant oils, hydrolats or tinctures will retain their scent and colour longer than in a clear bottle. The packaging does not provide complete darkness, so for sensitive contents, store the bottle away from direct sunlight as well.
Can the 500 ml plastic bottle be used for food, such as home oil or syrup?
Yes, both the bottle and the black cap have food contact certification, so the complete set is suitable for home oils, vinegars, syrups and herbal extracts. Wash and dry the packaging before the first use. Let hot syrups cool before filling, as PET deforms at high temperatures.
How much fits in the 500 ml bottle and how full should it be filled?
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume of 500 ml, not to the neck. The actual volume to the brim is somewhat larger, and this difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of contents when temperature changes. If the bottle is filled all the way to the brim, the contents may overflow when closing or during transport.
Is the PET plastic bottle suitable for alcohol tinctures and essential oils?
For tinctures, hydrolats and diluted blends, yes — these are common contents for this bottle. Aggressive chemicals and concentrated solvents are not suitable for this packaging. For blends with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend filling one unit first and checking the bottle wall and cap after a few days.
Can the black cap on the 500 ml bottle be replaced with a pump or sprayer?
Yes, the bottle has a neck with a 28/410 thread, so closures with the same neck type from the Handymade range will fit, including ready-made bottle-and-cap combinations. With your own combination, verify the seal and dispensing with the specific contents.
