Product description

A plastic bottle with a capacity of 250 ml made from transparent PET is a lightweight and shatterproof container for liquid and semi-liquid products. The 24/410 threaded neck accepts a pump, spray top, or cap, so a single bottle can serve as a dispenser for shower gel, body lotion, toner, or household cleaner depending on the closure chosen. The clear material shows the contents, which works well for products where colour or transparency is part of the appeal, and also makes it easy to check the fill level during use.

The container is approved for direct contact with both food and cosmetic products, making it equally suitable for home-made oils, syrups, and herbal infusions as for your own cosmetics.

Why choose a clear PET bottle

  • Low weight and shatter resistance – the bottle is suitable for the bathroom, travel, and postal shipping; it will not break or shatter if dropped.
  • Visible contents – the customer can see the colour, consistency, and remaining quantity; for coloured shower gels or layered products this is part of the product's visual appeal.
  • 24/410 neck finish – a widely used neck size with a broad range of compatible pumps, sprayers, and caps, allowing the dispensing method to be matched to the product's viscosity.
  • 250 ml capacity – a standard size for shower gels, shampoos, toners, and body lotions: large enough for regular use and comfortable to hold.
  • Cosmetic, food-grade, and technical quality – the material is suitable for cosmetics, direct food contact, and household products; a declaration of conformity and test certificate are available on the product page.

Suitable uses for the bottle

The choice of closure determines which product type the bottle suits best. With a pump it works well for more viscous products dispensed into the palm: shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, body lotions, and light creamy emulsions. With a spray top it is suitable for thin, water-based products such as toners, hydrosol mists, micellar waters, air fresheners, or household cleaners. With a cap it serves massage and body oils, oil cleansers, or liquid concentrates that are measured out at the point of use.

In the household the bottle is also used for food: vegetable oils, home-made syrups, herbal infusions, pickles, or cold drinks.

Nominal and total capacity

The nominal capacity is the volume the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling conditions. The total capacity to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference acts as headspace for the pump or spray dip tube, which occupies part of the neck once fitted, and as room for the contents to expand with changes in temperature. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. For products that foam or are filled with a pump dip tube in place, it is advisable to leave an even larger headspace.

What to know before filling

Preparing the container. Before the first fill, rinse the bottle with clean water, sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave it to dry completely neck-down. Residual water in the container would dilute the product and, in preservative-free formulations, shorten its shelf life. The same procedure applies for both cosmetics and food.

Filling temperature. PET is not intended for hot filling. At elevated temperatures it may deform or distort, so allow emulsions, gels, and syrups to cool to room temperature before filling. For the same reason, do not wash the bottle at high temperatures or leave it near a heat source.

Clear PET provides no protection against light. Products containing light-sensitive ingredients — such as higher concentrations of essential oils, vitamins, or plant oils prone to oxidation — are better filled into opaque containers or stored away from direct light.

Compatibility with contents. PET handles aqueous solutions, emulsions, surfactant-based products, and common vegetable oils well. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol, or solvents, we recommend checking compatibility: fill the bottle, leave it for several weeks, and observe whether the material softens, clouds, or changes shape. The container is not intended for aggressive chemicals.

Reuse. After thorough washing and drying the bottle can be used again. When switching product types — for example from an oil to a water-based toner — make sure all traces of the previous contents are removed, otherwise the stability of the new product may be compromised.

Labelling. The smooth cylindrical surface of the bottle is suitable for self-adhesive labels; label dimensions for design purposes are listed in the product specifications. Apply the label to a dry, degreased surface, otherwise the edges will lift.

Recycling. The bottle is made from a single type of plastic and belongs in the sorted plastics waste stream; a closure made from a different material should be removed before disposal.

Choosing a closure

Closures with the same neck finish as listed in the product specifications, as well as ready-made bottle-and-pump, bottle-and-sprayer, and bottle-and-cap combinations, are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying leak-tightness, dosing performance, and container behaviour with your specific formulation.

For viscous products such as thick shower gels or body lotions, check that the chosen pump can draw up and dispense them. If the product is too thick, slightly reducing the viscosity of the formulation or switching to a different closure type will help.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear 250 ml plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET transmits light and does not protect the contents. It is therefore suitable for products that are not affected by light, such as surfactant gels, shampoos, or household cleaners. Products containing light-sensitive ingredients are better filled into amber or blue containers, or the clear bottle should be kept in a cupboard away from direct light.
Can a 24/410 PET bottle be filled with a hot product?
No, PET bottles are not designed for hot filling. At elevated temperatures the material softens and the bottle may deform. Allow emulsions, gels, and home-made syrups to cool to room temperature before filling. The bottle should also not be washed at high temperatures, for example in a dishwasher.
Is the 250 ml plastic bottle suitable for oils and essential oils?
For common vegetable and massage oils yes — PET tolerates prolonged contact with them well. For products with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking compatibility with a test fill over several weeks. It should also be noted that a clear container does not protect oils from light, which accelerates their oxidation.
Can the clear 250 ml PET bottle be used for food?
Yes, the container is suitable for direct food contact under normal conditions of use. It works well for vegetable oils, home-made syrups, herbal infusions, or cold drinks. Suitability for both food and cosmetics is documented by a declaration of conformity and test certificate available on the product page. Fill the contents cold, as PET is not intended for hot filling.
How much product can be filled into a bottle with a nominal capacity of 250 ml?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, approximately 250 ml, not to the brim. The total capacity to the neck is slightly larger, and this difference provides headspace for a pump or spray dip tube and room for the contents to expand with temperature changes. For foaming products and when using a pump with a long dip tube, it is advisable to leave an even larger headspace.
Can the 24/410 plastic bottle be washed and reused?
Yes, after thorough washing with warm water and detergent, rinsing, sanitising with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, and complete drying, the bottle can be used again. When changing the type of contents, remove all traces of the previous product. If after a previous fill the material has softened, clouded, or changed shape, do not reuse the bottle.
