Product description

A 200 ml clear PET plastic bottle with a 24/410 neck is a lightweight, shatter-resistant container designed for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic preparations. The transparent wall reveals the colour of the contents and the fill level, making it particularly suitable for products where the appearance of the formula matters – from tonics and mists to shower gels. The bottle is supplied without a closure; the closure is selected according to the neck type and dispensing method.

The packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity can be found in the product parameters.

Why choose this bottle

  • Clear PET – the contents are fully visible, which is practical with coloured tonics, gel textures, or products where the customer wants to see how much is left.
  • Low weight and shatter resistance – compared to glass, the bottle is significantly lighter, reducing shipping costs and the risk of breakage when dropped in the bathroom or during transport.
  • 24/410 neck – one of the most common thread sizes, compatible with a wide range of closures from a simple screw cap through a flip-top to a pump or spray.
  • 200 ml volume – a suitable size for both rinse-off and leave-on everyday-use products.

Nominal and total volume

When filling, it is useful to distinguish between two figures. The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is intended for under normal filling conditions and is the figure stated on the label. The total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference provides headspace for the closure, the dip tube of a pump or spray, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – the closure will then seal correctly and the pump will draw properly.

Suitable product types

  • Tonics, micellar waters and hydrosol mists – water-based formulas without an oil phase are trouble-free in PET, and the clear bottle highlights the clarity or colour of the preparation.
  • Shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps – more viscous surfactant-based products are conveniently dispensed via a flip-top or pump.
  • Body milks and light emulsions – thinner emulsions work well with a pump; thicker ones are better suited to a flip-top with bottle squeeze.
  • Hair conditioners and rinse-off masks – shower products where a shatter-resistant container is an advantage.

Clear PET does not provide protection against light. For preparations containing UV-sensitive ingredients such as vitamin C, retinoids, or a high proportion of vegetable or essential oils, we recommend dark glass or an opaque container, or storing the bottle in a box.

Practical use

Preparation before first fill – we recommend rinsing the bottle with warm water, sanitising with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leaving it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water inside the container would dilute the preservative system and could cause microbial contamination.

Filling temperature – PET is not intended for hot filling. Allow emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature before filling; otherwise the bottle wall may deform or a vacuum may form as the contents cool.

Compatibility with contents – water-based and surfactant systems as well as standard emulsions are trouble-free in PET. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils, neat vegetable oils, or solvents (for example a high alcohol content in tinctures), we recommend testing the material behaviour on a sample first. Some ingredients may gradually soften or cloud the plastic.

Labelling – the round shape with a straight cylindrical section allows a wraparound label to be applied without creases. Bottle dimensions are listed in the product parameters.

Reuse – the bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. When changing the type of product, make sure no residue of the previous contents or fragrance remains inside.

Recycling – PET is among the most widely recycled plastics. Simply empty and rinse the container before disposal.

Closures with a 24/410 neck and ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available from Handymade. When assembling your own combination, we recommend testing the seal and dispensing performance with your specific formulation, particularly with thick gel textures and pump dispensers.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear 200 ml plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET is transparent to light and does not protect the contents from UV radiation. It is therefore suitable for preparations that are not light-sensitive, such as surfactant-based products, tonics or standard emulsions with stable ingredients. For serums containing vitamin C, retinoids, or a high proportion of vegetable or essential oils, we recommend dark glass or an opaque container.
Can I fill a PET plastic bottle with a hot emulsion or gel?
No, PET is not suitable for hot filling. Allow the contents to cool to room temperature first; otherwise the bottle wall may deform, and once the contents cool a vacuum can form that causes the bottle to collapse. This applies to emulsions, gels and liquid soaps that are prepared under heat.
Is a PET plastic bottle suitable for an oil serum or a blend of essential oils?
For standard vegetable oils, yes; however, with a high proportion of essential oils or alcohol we recommend caution. Some ingredients can gradually soften or cloud the plastic, and clear PET also offers no light protection for oils, which accelerates oxidation. Dark glass is the more appropriate choice for such products.
How should a plastic bottle be prepared before first use, and can it be reused?
Before the first fill, rinse the bottle, sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave it to dry completely. Reuse is possible after thorough washing and disinfection, provided no residue of the previous contents remains inside. When switching products it is also advisable to replace the closure, especially a pump, where residue is difficult to remove.
Which closure fits a plastic bottle with a 24/410 neck?
Any closure with a 24/410 thread fits – a screw cap, flip-top, pump or spray. The choice depends on the viscosity of the contents: a spray suits water-based solutions, while a pump or flip-top suits gels and lotions. Ready-made bottle and closure combinations as well as individual closures are available from Handymade.
