Product description
Plastic bottle, transparent round, 24/410, 500 ml
A plastic bottle with a nominal volume of 500 ml made of PET is a lightweight and shatter-resistant container for larger quantities of liquid and semi-liquid preparations. It is suitable for shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, body lotions, tonics, massage oils and household cleaning products – anything dispensed repeatedly on a daily basis. The rounded shape is easy to grip with a wet hand, stands stably in the shower or on the washbasin, and offers a continuous surface for a label.
The transparent material shows the contents, which is an advantage with coloured gels, layered oils or products where appearance should be part of the presentation. The 24/410 neck thread is one of the most common sizes, so the choice of closure is wide.
Key features
- Lightweight and shatter-resistant container – PET is significantly lighter than glass and will not break if dropped in the bathroom, during transport or when shipping orders. The lower weight also saves on shipping costs.
- Transparency – the contents are visible, so the customer can see the colour and texture as well as how much product remains.
- 500 ml volume – a suitable size for family packs, rinse-off products with high consumption, refills, or salon and professional use.
- 24/410 thread – a standard neck size with a wide range of readily available closures, from a simple cap to a dispensing pump.
- Suitability for cosmetics – the packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products as well as technical preparations and meets the applicable regulatory requirements. A declaration of conformity is available with the product.
Nominal and total volume
Two volume figures are distinguished for bottles. The nominal volume is the quantity the container is designed to hold under normal filling conditions, and this is the figure by which the bottle is labelled and sold. The total brim volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is always somewhat larger. The difference provides a margin for the closure, pump or spray head that extends into the neck, as well as room for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. For foamy or thick products, the margin is also important to prevent the contents from being pushed out when closing and pressing.
Use in manufacturing and filling
The bottle is designed for water-based, emulsion and oil-based contents. It handles shower gels and shampoos based on common surfactants, cream emulsions with lower viscosity, hydrolats and vegetable and massage oils well. It is not practical for thick creams and butters, as they are difficult to dispense through the narrow neck.
PET is sensitive to higher temperatures and aggressive solvents. Fill the product when cooled, not hot, and do not wash the bottle with hot water or in a dishwasher, as it may deform. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils, concentrated fragrance compositions, acetone or other strong solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the container on a sample beforehand, as they may cloud or soften the plastic.
Closures with the same neck type as stated in the product parameters are suitable, and ready-made bottle and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend checking seal integrity and dispensing with the specific formulation – for example, whether the pump can handle the viscosity of a body lotion or whether a liquid soap leaks through an open-top cap.
Useful to know
- Preparation before filling – for new bottles, we recommend rinsing before first use, sanitising with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving to dry completely, neck down. Residual water in the container dilutes the product and places an additional load on the preservative system.
- Reuse – the bottle can be refilled after thorough washing and disinfection. Before each refill, check that the thread is not damaged and that the closure still seals properly. PET may become scratched over time, which reduces transparency.
- Labelling – the rounded surface of the bottle is suitable for self-adhesive labels. For larger labels, allow for the curvature so that the corners do not peel. Label dimensions for design purposes can be found in the product parameters.
- Light – transparent plastic does not protect the contents from light. Products containing antioxidants, vitamins, plant extracts or sensitive essential oils are better stored away from direct sunlight, or covered with a label that shields most of the bottle.
- Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and, once emptied and the closure removed, belongs in plastic recycling.
If filling foamy gels or shampoos, leave the product to stand after production until the air has escaped, and fill slowly down the inner wall of the bottle. Foam in the container distorts the volume and leaks out when closing.
