Product description

The 38 mm plastic cap is a screw closure made of polypropylene (PP) designed for containers with a BER38 neck finish. It seals the container without a dispenser, making it suitable for applications where the contents are poured, measured, or decanted into smaller packaging.

The transparent version is visually neutral. It pairs with both clear and coloured bottles without interfering with the label or the colour of the contents.

Suitable applications

The wide 38 mm neck makes filling and pouring thicker products easier — products that would flow slowly through a narrow opening. A simple screw cap is particularly practical in the following applications:

  • Refills and bulk packaging – liquid soaps, shampoos, conditioners, or shower gels from which contents are decanted into smaller pump-fitted bottles.
  • Raw materials and intermediates – hydrolats, surfactants, vegetable oils, or ready-made bases that are measured and weighed out during production.
  • Household cleaning products – laundry gels, dishwashing liquids, and cleaning agents dispensed by pouring.
  • Transport and storage – a plain cap has no moving parts that could be accidentally pressed or opened during transit.

Bottles with the same neck finish (specified in the parameters) and ready-matched container and closure combinations are available from Handymade. With a custom combination, it is advisable to test the seal with the actual contents beforehand.

Material and compatibility with contents

Polypropylene is a lightweight, flexible plastic that tolerates water-based, oil-based, and alcohol-based cosmetic contents, including standard surfactant blends. The cap is suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

Concentrated essential oils, fragrance compounds, and organic solvents may degrade the plastic or alter its appearance with prolonged contact. With such contents, it is advisable to carry out a test with a filled and capped bottle and check the cap's appearance and seal after several weeks.

What to keep in mind when filling and sealing

  • Preparation before first use – wash the cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow it to dry completely to prevent water from entering the product.
  • Fill to the nominal volume – the nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions; the total capacity to the brim is the physical volume right up to the neck. The difference serves as a reserve for the closure and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. An overfilled bottle will push the contents into the thread when capped, and the cap will not seat cleanly.
  • Clean neck – residue on the thread reduces the seal and dries out over time; wipe the neck before screwing on the cap.
  • Hot contents – products filled while hot should be allowed to cool before capping; otherwise, water vapour condenses under the cap.
  • Recycling – polypropylene is a recyclable plastic and is sorted together with other plastic packaging.

Frequently asked questions

What bottles does the 38 mm plastic cap fit?
The 38 mm plastic cap fits containers with a BER38 neck finish. The neck diameter alone is not sufficient — the thread type also matters, as necks with the same diameter may have different thread pitch and height. The neck finish type is listed in the parameters of both the bottle and the cap. For bottles from a different source, seal compatibility should be tested.
Is the 38 mm plastic cap suitable for cosmetic products?
Yes, the 38 mm plastic cap is suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The declaration based on technical documentation is listed in the product parameters. It meets the quality requirements for both cosmetic and technical use, making it suitable for cosmetics as well as household cleaning products. With concentrated essential oils, fragrance compounds, and organic solvents, it is advisable to carry out a test with a filled bottle in advance.
Does the transparent 38 mm plastic cap protect the contents from light?
No, the transparent cap transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. Since it covers only the neck, protection depends primarily on the bottle: a dark or opaque container protects the contents significantly better than a clear one. Light-sensitive products should be filled into dark bottles and stored away from direct sunlight.
Can the 38 mm plastic cap be reused?
Yes, the 38 mm plastic cap can be reused provided the thread and seating surface are undamaged. Before refilling, wash with warm soapy water, disinfect, and allow to dry completely. A cap with a crack, deformation, or residual odour from a previous content is best discarded.
How to check whether the 38 mm plastic cap seals properly on a bottle?
The seal can be verified with a simple test: fill and tightly close the bottle, then leave it lying on its side or upside down for at least a day. If no wet trace forms around the neck, the combination seals. The test should be carried out with the actual product before a larger production run, as thin oil-based and alcohol-based contents penetrate any gaps more readily than thick gels.
