Product description

Plastic cap for fabric softener bottles in black is a screw cap made of polypropylene, designed for bottles with an LD 42/3 neck type. It fits wherever you need to simply and reliably seal a larger bottle with liquid contents – especially for home production of fabric softener, laundry gel or dishwashing liquid, but also for shower gels, shampoos and liquid soaps filled into larger volumes. The black colour creates a striking contrast with white and clear bottles and pairs well with dark labels, giving the entire product line a cohesive look.

The cap is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the applicable legislative requirements. A declaration of conformity is available with the product.

Where the cap works best

  • Home cleaning products – fabric softener, laundry gel, dishwashing gel or all-purpose cleaner: products made in larger batches and used repeatedly in small doses.
  • Rinse-off cosmetics in larger packaging – shower gels, shampoos and liquid soaps in family sizes or as refill packs for topping up smaller dispensers.
  • Stock packaging for own products – a finished formulation that you keep sealed and pour out as needed.
  • Uniform line appearance – the same black cap on all bottles in a line simplifies the choice of closures and the look on the shelf.

How to pair the cap with a bottle

The decisive factor is the neck type, not the bottle volume. The cap fits any bottle with the same thread type. Bottles with this neck and ready-made cap-and-bottle combinations are available in the Handymade range. When combining with a bottle from another source, verify the seal in advance: fill and close the bottle, lay it on its side and upside down, and check after several hours that the contents are not leaking anywhere.

Test the seal with the finished formulation, not just with water. Products containing surfactants and thickeners behave differently from water, and pressure inside the bottle also changes during transport. Therefore, carry out the test with the finished product and a properly tightened cap.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first use – wash the cap with warm water and a cleaning agent, rinse, disinfect as needed with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely with the thread facing down. Residual water in the thread can affect the microbiological stability of the contents.
  • Material resistance – polypropylene tolerates water, surfactants and the common acids and bases used in home cleaning. With concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions or solvents, verify the material behaviour in the finished formulation.
  • Filling – fill the bottle with cooled contents and only to the nominal volume, not to the neck. The space below the cap acts as a reserve for the expansion of contents when temperature changes and allows the bottle to be closed without forcing product into the thread.
  • Reuse – after thorough washing and complete drying, the cap can be used again. Before reuse, check that the thread is not damaged or deformed.
  • Recycling – the cap is made of polypropylene and belongs in plastic waste. If the bottle is made of a different material, separate it from the cap before disposal.

The cap has a declared suitability for use with cosmetic products. Suitability for direct food contact is not declared for it, so for homemade syrups or oils choose a cap with the relevant food-contact certification.

Frequently asked questions

Which bottles is the black plastic fabric softener bottle cap suitable for?
The cap fits bottles with an LD 42/3 neck type, which is the common thread of larger bottles for fabric softener, laundry gel or dishwashing liquid. The bottle volume is not the deciding factor – what matters is that the thread type matches. Bottles with this neck and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a bottle from another source, test the seal in advance.
Is the plastic fabric softener bottle cap leak-proof during transport?
Sealing depends on the specific combination of cap, bottle and contents, so always verify it with a test using the finished product. Fill the bottle, close it firmly, lay it on its side and upside down, and check for leaks after several hours. For shipments, also account for pressure and temperature changes, which put more stress on the cap than when it is standing on a shelf.
Can the polypropylene plastic cap be reused?
Yes, after thorough washing and complete drying the cap can be reused. Polypropylene is resistant to water and common cleaning products, so it withstands repeated washing. Before reuse, check the condition of the thread. When switching to a different formulation, also disinfect the cap so that residues of the previous product do not contaminate the new contents.
Does the polypropylene cap withstand essential oils and fragrance compositions?
At the doses typically used in fabric softeners, laundry gels or shower gels, polypropylene generally tolerates essential oils and fragrance compositions. With concentrated fragrance components or anhydrous products with a high proportion of essential oils, monitor the material behaviour over time, as some components may gradually soften the plastic or cause discolouration.
Is the black plastic cap suitable for food use?
For this cap, suitability for use with cosmetic products is declared; suitability for direct food contact is not declared. For homemade syrups, oils or herbal extracts, choose a cap that has a food-contact certification listed in its specifications. For cosmetics and home cleaning products, the cap can be used without restriction within its normal intended use.
Why is the bottle with this cap not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, because the space under the cap serves as a buffer. The contents expand with temperature changes, and if overfilled, they would reach the thread, impairing the seal and contaminating the neck when opening. The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is designed. The total volume to the brim is larger.
