Product description

It is a plastic screw cap for bottles with a neck of the type LD 42/3, as used for fabric softeners, laundry gels, and liquid cleaning agents. Its role is to seal the bottle so that the contents do not leak during storage, transport, or everyday handling at home. It is suitable for anyone who makes their own fabric softener, laundry gel, surface cleaner, or liquid laundry soap and needs a cap for the bottle that seals and can be repeatedly opened and closed.

The cap is made of polypropylene (PP), which withstands common household chemical and cosmetic ingredients and does not change shape with repeated screwing. It is designed for bottles with an LD 42/3 neck from the Handymade range. Bottles with the same neck type as well as ready-made bottle and cap combinations are available in our range.

Key properties

  • Tight seal – the LD 42/3 thread seats onto the bottle neck with the same thread type and, when tightened properly, keeps the contents inside.
  • Durable material – polypropylene tolerates contact with surfactants, acidic and alkaline solutions, and common fragrance components, making it suitable for household chemicals and cosmetics.
  • Repeated use – the cap can be unscrewed and screwed back on many times without loss of seal, as long as the thread is not mechanically damaged.
  • Easy handling – the wider cap is easy to grip even with a wet hand, which you will appreciate in the laundry room or at the sink.
  • Black colour – looks neutral on white, clear, or coloured bottles and visually unifies the entire range if you fill multiple preparations into the same type of container.

Use

The neck type is always stated in the bottle's specifications. Simply compare it with the thread type of the cap and you can be sure the cap fits the bottle.

Most commonly used for:

  • homemade fabric softener and laundry rinse aids,
  • laundry gels and liquid laundry soaps,
  • cleaning agents for surfaces, floors, or the bathroom,
  • liquid cosmetic preparations in larger volumes, such as shower gels or shampoos for refilling smaller bottles.

The packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity and related documentation can be found on the product page. Suitability for food contact is not stated for this cap, so we do not recommend it for food purposes.

When combining a bottle and cap yourself, carry out a leak test before filling the entire batch. Fill the bottle with water, screw on the cap, lay it on its side, and leave it for several hours. If the neck does not leak, you can fill it with the finished preparation.

Good to know

Before first use, wash the cap with warm water and detergent, or disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual moisture under the cap can shorten the shelf life of cosmetic preparations.

Tighten the cap with moderate force. Over-tightening will not improve the seal; on the contrary, it can damage the thread on the bottle or cap. If the bottle leaks after screwing on the cap, check that it actually has an LD 42/3 neck and that there are no residues of dried preparation on the thread.

For preparations with a higher content of essential oils or solvents, we recommend verifying the cap's behaviour on a single piece first. Polypropylene is resistant to most such ingredients, but with prolonged contact with concentrated fragrance components it may absorb odour.

With repeated use, thoroughly wash the cap between refills to prevent residues of the previous preparation from entering the new contents. When the cap has served its purpose, it belongs in sorted plastic waste.

Preparations that release gas during storage (for example fermenting mixtures or certain bleaching solutions) can increase pressure in a tightly sealed bottle. Do not fill such contents into a tightly sealed bottle with this cap.

Frequently asked questions

Which bottles does the black cap for fabric softener bottle type 2 fit?
The cap fits bottles with a neck of the type LD 42/3. This neck type is found on fabric softener bottles and similar containers for liquid household chemicals from the Handymade range. The neck type is stated in each bottle's specifications, so when choosing you simply need to compare it with the thread type of the cap. On bottles with a different neck, the cap will not seat tightly.
Is the polypropylene cap suitable for homemade fabric softener and laundry gel?
Yes, polypropylene is a commonly used material for liquid household chemicals. It withstands surfactants, acidic and alkaline solutions, and the common fragrance components found in fabric softeners, laundry gels, and cleaners. For concentrated essential oils or solvents, we recommend verifying resistance on a single piece first.
Can the fabric softener bottle cap be used repeatedly?
Yes, the cap is designed for repeated opening and closing. It will maintain its seal as long as the thread is not mechanically damaged or clogged with dried preparation. Between refills, simply wash it with warm water and detergent, or disinfect it and let it dry.
Is the fabric softener bottle cap also suitable for cosmetic preparations?
Yes, the packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products, such as shower gels, shampoos, or liquid soaps in larger packaging. The declaration of conformity can be found on the product page. The cap is not intended for food use, as suitability for food contact is not stated for it.
Why does the bottle with the fabric softener bottle cap leak?
The most common cause is a different bottle neck type than LD 42/3, a dirty thread, or thread damage from over-tightening. Check the neck type in the bottle's specifications, clean the thread on both the bottle and cap, and tighten the cap with moderate force. If the cap still leaks on a clean and correct neck, it is likely mechanically damaged and needs to be replaced.
