Product description

A ready-to-use bottle and cap set for dispensing contents in small amounts: a clear plastic bottle made of PET with a nominal volume of 50 ml and a black flip top cap. Suitable for gels, liquid soaps, shampoos, shower gels, light lotions, cleansing gels, or massage and body oils in travel or sample packaging.

The clear wall shows the colour and consistency of the contents, making the set particularly suitable for products that have their own colour or are transparent and you want to present them. PET is lightweight and unbreakable, suitable for the bathroom, travel, and postal shipping. The black flip top opens with one finger and releases only as much content as you need when you squeeze the bottle.

The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Squeeze dispensing – the flip top cap with opening is designed for liquid to medium-viscosity products: hand gel, liquid soap, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, face lotion, cleansing gel, light body or massage oil.
  • Travel and sample packaging – the 50 ml volume is practical for holidays, handbags, or as a sample for customers who want to try the product first.
  • One-handed use – the cap just needs to be flipped open with a thumb; the contents are dispensed by squeezing the bottle walls. The wall is flexible and returns to its original shape after releasing.
  • Visible contents – the customer can see the colour of the product and the remaining amount, which is appreciated with gel soap or a coloured shower gel.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for during normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is usually slightly larger. The difference forms the reserve for the cap, for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes, and the air cushion that facilitates squeeze dispensing. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

For thicker products (thick gel, creamy conditioner), leave a little more air in the bottle. The contents will reach the cap opening more easily after squeezing and the bottle will return to its shape more quickly after releasing.

How to work with the set

Before the first fill, we recommend washing the bottle and cap, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing to dry completely. Do not sterilise PET by boiling or with hot water; the material deforms at higher temperatures. Fill the contents cooled to room temperature.

Screw the cap onto the neck firmly but without force; overtightening can damage the thread. Before shipping or travelling, check that the flip top is snapped shut, and for high-risk products, place the set in a resealable bag. The flip top is designed for repeated opening; when transporting at higher temperatures or with very thin contents, we recommend verifying the seal with the specific product first.

PET is resistant to water, soap and surfactant mixtures, and vegetable oils. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol, or solvents, we recommend verifying compatibility with a single bottle over several weeks, as some ingredients can cloud or soften the plastic. Light-sensitive contents (oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, some active ingredients) are better suited to a dark container; the clear bottle does not protect them from light.

The set as a whole is not intended for food use. Only the bottle individually holds a food contact certificate; the cap is declared for cosmetic use. Do not use this set for household oils or syrups.

Good to know

  • Label – a label can be applied to the flat part of the wall. With a clear bottle, consider a transparent label that does not cover the contents.
  • Reuse – the bottle and cap can be refilled after washing and disinfecting. When changing the product (for example from oil to gel), wash the inside of the cap too; oil residues could affect the new contents.
  • Other caps – other caps with the same thread type also fit this neck, and ready-made bottle + cap combinations are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, verify the seal, dispensing, and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP, both materials are among the commonly recyclable plastics. Before disposal, simply separate and empty them.

Frequently asked questions

Is the plastic bottle and flip top cap set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. The food contact certificate is held individually by the clear PET bottle; the black flip top cap does not have one, so the entire assembly is intended for cosmetic products. If you need packaging for household oils or syrups, choose a bottle with a cap that also holds a food contact certificate.
Can both oil and thick gel be dispensed through the flip top cap?
Yes, the flip top cap handles both liquid and medium-viscosity products, dispensed by squeezing the bottle. Thin oils flow out easily, so squeeze the bottle gently to avoid releasing too large a dose. Very thick creams or pastes are difficult to dispense through the opening; for these, a bottle with a wider neck or a jar is more suitable.
Does the clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, the clear PET bottle does not protect the contents from light. It is suitable for products that are not sensitive to light or that are used up quickly: liquid soap, shower gel, shampoo. For oils and light-sensitive active ingredients, we recommend filling into a brown or blue bottle, or storing the set away from direct sunlight.
How many ml actually fit in the 50 ml bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml, although slightly more fits to the brim. The difference between the nominal and total volume is the reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents; with a squeezable bottle, it also provides the air cushion that facilitates dispensing. Therefore, do not fill the bottle right up to the neck.
How to prepare the bottle and cap before the first fill?
Before the first fill, wash both the bottle and cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. Do not boil the PET bottle or fill it with hot contents; the material deforms at higher temperatures. After thorough washing and disinfection, the set can be reused.
Is the PET bottle suitable for products with essential oils or alcohol?
PET generally tolerates aqueous, surfactant-based, and oily products; however, with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol, or solvents, we recommend verifying compatibility. Concentrated essential oils or alcoholic tinctures can cloud or soften the plastic over time. For standard dispensing of essential oils in shampoo, gel, or massage oil, PET is typically problem-free; for pure essential oils, glass is more appropriate.
