Product description

50 ml plastic bottle with flip top cap – complete set for gels, shampoos and liquid products

Ready-to-use bottle and cap set for products dispensed by squeezing or tilting the bottle: shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, body lotions, gel serums or hand sanitising gels. It consists of a clear plastic bottle made of PET with a nominal volume of 50 ml and a clear flip top cap with a matching thread. The small volume makes it a practical solution for travel sizes, samples and test batches that you want to distribute or try out before producing larger quantities.

The clear material shows the colour and consistency of the contents, so both the customer and the producer can see how much product remains in the bottle. PET is lightweight and shatter-resistant, which you will appreciate when shipping, in the bathroom and in a travel bag.

Why choose this set

  • One-handed dispensing – the flip top opens with the thumb, the contents are squeezed out and the cap snaps back. Nothing is unscrewed or lost.
  • Transparency – coloured gels or products with dispersed particles look natural in a clear bottle and the remaining contents are visible at a glance.
  • Low weight and durability – PET does not shatter when dropped, making it suitable for shipments and samples.
  • Cosmetic suitability of the bottle – the bottle has documented suitability for contact with cosmetic products and a separate certificate for direct food contact. The cap does not come with such a declaration, so the complete set is offered for cosmetic and technical use, and we recommend verifying the cap's compatibility with your specific formulation.

How to work with the set

The flip top is designed for products of liquid to gel consistency. Very thin, watery contents (tonics, hydrolates) flow out of the opening quickly and are harder to dispense – a spray or dropper is more suitable for these. Conversely, thick creams and butters are difficult to squeeze through the small opening; a jar or pump is more suitable for those.

The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes, which is why the bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Overfilling leads to product being pushed out when closing and to poor sealing.

For gel products, after filling leave the bottle to stand for a moment so that air bubbles rise to the top, then snap the flip top shut. Before dispatch, check that the cap seals when the bottle is squeezed upside down.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – we recommend washing and disinfecting both the bottle and cap with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing them to dry completely. Moisture in the bottle dilutes the product and increases the risk of microbial contamination.
  • Filling temperature – PET is not designed for filling with hot contents. Allow emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle wall may deform.
  • Light protection – the clear bottle does not protect the contents from light. Store products with sensitive oils, vitamins or natural pigments in the dark, or choose amber or blue glass for them.
  • Labelling – the smooth cylindrical wall takes labels well; you will find the label dimensions in the specifications. With a clear package, consider using a clear label that does not obscure the contents.
  • Reuse – the bottle and flip top can be reused after washing and disinfection, as long as they are not scratched or deformed. The cap wears over time, especially at the hinge.
  • Other caps – caps with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend checking the seal, dispensing and packaging behaviour with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the empty, rinsed packaging is sorted as plastic.

PET handles aqueous solutions, emulsions, vegetable oils and typical concentrations of ethanol well, but is not suitable for concentrated essential oils, acetone or aggressive solvents that can cloud or soften the bottle wall. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking the packaging stability on a single sample.

Frequently asked questions

What products is the 50 ml plastic bottle with flip top cap suitable for?
The set is suitable for liquid to gel products dispensed by squeezing the bottle – shower gels, shampoos, liquid soaps, body lotions or sanitising gels. The 50 ml volume is particularly suited for travel sizes, samples and test batches. For thin tonics or thick creams, other types of caps are more appropriate.
Does the clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, the clear bottle does not protect the contents from light. It is suitable for products that are not affected by light, or for products stored in the dark or in a box. For serums with sensitive oils, vitamins or natural pigments, amber or blue glass is a better choice.
Is the 50 ml plastic bottle suitable for oil-based and alcohol-based contents?
The PET bottle is suitable for vegetable oils, aqueous solutions, emulsions and products with a typical proportion of ethanol. It is not designed for concentrated essential oils, acetone or aggressive solvents that may damage the material. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend verifying stability on a sample.
How much product is actually filled into the 50 ml bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim. The total volume to the neck is slightly larger and serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. An overfilled bottle seals poorly and the product is pushed out when closing.
Can the bottle with flip top cap be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the flip top can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Before refilling, check that the cap still seals and that the cap hinge is not damaged. When changing the type of product, wash the packaging especially thoroughly to ensure that no scent or residue from the previous contents is transferred.
Is the bottle and flip top set approved for food contact?
The complete set is not approved for food contact. The bottle alone has a certificate for direct food contact; the flip top cap does not come with such a declaration. The set is therefore intended for cosmetic and technical use.
