Transparent Plastic Jar, White Lid 150 ml

Plastic jar, clear with white lid, 150 ml is a ready-made combination of container and closure for creams, body butters, scrubs and paste-like products that are scooped with fingers or a spatula. The jar made of PET is lightweight and shatterproof, which you will appreciate when shipping parcels and when travelling. The 150 ml volume corresponds to a standard packaging size for body butter, sugar scrub or face mask that is used up within a few weeks. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products and is also approved for direct food contact, making it suitable for homemade herbal salves, spices, dry blends or small portions of jam.

What products is the jar with lid suitable for

The neck of the jar has practically the same diameter as the body, so thick substances fill easily and are scooped out just as easily. It is therefore best suited for products that would be difficult to dispense from a narrow bottle.

• Body butters and balms – anhydrous products based on butters and waxes that hold their shape after solidification and are scooped with fingers. The wide opening allows filling with a spatula or by pouring the still-liquid mass.
• Creams and emulsions – thicker O/W and W/O creams where the customer does not need a pump dispenser. The clear jar also shows the colour of the emulsion, which is an advantage for tinted or naturally coloured creams.
• Sugar and salt scrubs – grainy masses that would clog a dispenser or narrow neck.
• Masks and pastes – clay masks in paste form and thicker gels applied with a spatula.
• Dry and loose products – bath salts, powder masks, dry additives. A dry fill and a tightly closed lid are important here.
• Food – thanks to the food-contact approval of the complete set, also suitable for spices, dried herbs, homemade spreads or solid honey.

How the set works in practice

The jar with lid has no dispenser; the contents are scooped directly from the container. For thick products this is the most natural method, but it has an implication for the formulation: every opening lets in air and every scoop with a finger introduces micro-organisms. For anhydrous butters and balms this is not a significant problem; for products containing water it is the main route of contamination.

The lid screws onto the jar thread and has a soft sealing insert on the inside that seats against the neck and helps keep the contents sealed. The set is designed for thick, paste-like and solid contents, not for thin liquids. For products that flow and for long-distance transport, we recommend verifying the seal with the specific formulation in advance.

The jar and lid are supplied as a single set. If you need a different type of closure, Handymade's range includes closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations. Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the jar is intended under normal filling conditions, and it is this figure that is stated on the product label. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides a reserve for the lid with sealing insert and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes – for example when body butter softens in summer. The jar is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled container is difficult to close and the contents are pushed out when the lid is tightened.

What is useful to know before filling

• Container preparation – before the first fill, wash both the jar and the lid, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Fill only into a dry container; residual moisture is an unnecessary risk with anhydrous products.
• Filling temperature – PET is not intended for filling with hot masses. Allow melted butters and balms to cool before pouring to a temperature at which they are still liquid but no longer hot.
• Essential oils and solvents – at typical cosmetic concentrations of essential oils, PET behaves stably. Highly concentrated blends, solvents and aggressive chemicals, however, may damage the jar wall and the lid insert. For such formulations, we recommend testing with a full container and monitoring for changes in appearance or odour.
• Reuse – both the jar and the lid can be reused if they are not scratched, deformed or saturated with the scent of the previous contents.
• A transparent or white label works well on a clear container and does not cover the entire contents.
• Recycling – the PET jar and PP lid are recyclable plastics. Before disposal, it is advisable to separate the lid from the jar.
