Product description

A white plastic bottle with a volume of 100 ml and a clear ribbed cap is a closed pack for liquid cosmetic products that are poured or decanted from the bottle. The bottle is made of PET, is lightweight and does not break when dropped, which you will appreciate when shipping to customers and in the bathroom. The white opaque wall limits the passage of light to the contents. The cap with a 24/410 neck finish has a foam liner inside that keeps the contents in the bottle even when it is turned upside down in a bag.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle itself also has a certificate for direct food contact, but the cap does not have such a certificate, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

The volume matches a typical product size for several weeks of use or a travel version of a larger pack. The 24 mm neck is designed for liquids. Thick creams and butters that are scooped with a finger or a spatula are better suited to a jar.

  • Hydrosols and facial toners – light-sensitive water-based products that are dispensed onto a cotton pad or into the palm.
  • Face, body and massage oils – the liner in the cap prevents leaking when the bottle is turned upside down.
  • Liquid soaps, shower gels and shampoos – as a travel pack or a sample for the customer. The contents are dispensed after unscrewing the cap.
  • Cleansing and micellar waters, make-up removers – low-viscosity liquid products that do not need a pump.
  • Intermediate products in production – a weighed water or oil phase, fragrance blends before incorporation, batch samples to set aside.

Cap and liner

The clear PP cap has a ribbed shell that can be gripped even with wet or oily hands. The EPE liner is pressed against the bottle neck when the cap is tightened and seals it. The cap has no dispensing opening or safety feature; the contents are dispensed by unscrewing the cap. You can find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of the bottle with another closure in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes, so the bottle is filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If filled up to the neck, the contents would be pushed onto the thread when the cap is screwed on, and the liner would become contaminated.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Moisture in the packaging is the most common cause of contamination of water-based products.

Good to know

  • Heat – PET deforms with heat. Let emulsions, gels and liquid soaps cool to room temperature before filling.
  • Essential oils and solvents – for products with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or other solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the bottle and the liner on a single piece before larger production. The packaging should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals.
  • Reuse – the bottle can be washed and filled again. Check that the foam liner in the cap keeps its shape and still seals.
  • Contents are not visible – the white wall also hides any change of colour or cloudiness, so mark the product with the date of manufacture and check it after opening.
  • Recycling – the bottle is PET with material code 1, the cap is PP. Separate them before disposal and put both in the plastics recycling.

The set is not approved for food contact. If you need packaging for homemade oils or syrups, use the white 100 ml bottle on its own with a closure that has its own food-contact certificate.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white plastic 100 ml bottle protect the contents from light?
A white PET bottle lets significantly less light through to the contents than a clear bottle, but it does not guarantee complete protection from light. It is therefore suitable for hydrosols, toners and light-sensitive oils. Store products with unstable active ingredients away from direct sunlight as well, and mark the product with the date of manufacture, since you will not see a change of colour through the white wall.
Is the set of a white bottle with a clear cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the clear ribbed cap does not have one. For food use, therefore, choose a closure for the bottle that has its own food-contact declaration.
To what level should the white 100 ml plastic bottle be filled?
It is filled up to the nominal volume, that is 100 ml, not to the brim of the neck. The bottle physically has a slightly larger volume, and the difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If filled to the brim, the contents are pushed onto the thread when the cap is screwed on and the liner becomes contaminated.
Can the white 100 ml PET bottle be used for both oil and an alcohol-based product?
Yes for oils and water-based products. For alcohol tinctures, perfumes and blends with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend first testing on a single piece how both the bottle and the foam liner in the cap behave, and only then filling a larger batch. The packaging is not intended for aggressive chemicals.
How do I clean and reuse a white plastic bottle with a cap?
Wash the bottle with warm water and detergent, rinse it, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave it to dry upside down. Clean the cap in the same way and check the foam liner. If it is deformed or soaked with oil, tightness is no longer guaranteed. Do not use boiling water, as PET deforms with heat.
What closure can replace the ribbed cap on the 100 ml bottle?
Any closure with a 24/410 neck finish. The ribbed cap is suitable for decanting and travel packs, while for serums, toners or oils a dispensing closure may be more convenient. You can find ready-made combinations of the bottle with another closure in the Handymade range.
