Wooden wick, .02 black, 15.9 mm

The wooden wick is designed for making container candles in which the wick is meant to be a visible part of the candle's appearance. It is supplied as a set with a metal sustainer that holds it upright on the bottom of the container.

The wick consists of a single slat made from certified wood. Its flat shape and black colour set it apart from a standard cotton wick even before the candle is lit.

What makes the wooden wick distinctive

How to read the wick designation

Wooden wicks are identified by two values. Width indicates the cross dimension of the slat — for this wick, 15.9 mm. Slat thickness carries the code .02. This is the manufacturer's notation, in which a higher number means a thicker slat.

Both values should be considered together when selecting a wick. Two wicks with the same width may differ in thickness, so it is worth checking both figures when ordering.

Use in candle making

The wick is fitted into the container using the sustainer:

• the slat is inserted into the metal sustainer,
• the sustainer is secured to the centre of the container base,
• the sustainer holds the wick upright during wax pouring.

During a burn test, check whether the wax pool melts to the edge of the container, whether the flame is not too high, and whether the wick neither smokes nor extinguishes.
