VERIFIED DESCRIPTION

A blue glass bottle with a capacity of 100 ml is designed for storing light-sensitive preparations. Blue glass transmits only part of the light spectrum, thereby protecting the contents from oxidation and loss of efficacy due to light exposure. It is particularly suitable for oil serums, vegetable oils, tinctures, alcohol extracts and tonics where you want to extend the preservation of fragrance, colour and active ingredients.

Why blue glass

  • Light protection – blue glass reduces light transmission and slows down the degradation of contents sensitive to both UV and visible radiation; suitable for oils and extracts that lose quality more quickly in light.
  • Chemical inertness of glass – glass does not react with oils, alcohol or essential oils and does not leach any substances into the contents, making it suitable even for more aggressive formulations that would degrade plastic.
  • Easy cleaning and reuse – glass withstands thorough washing and disinfection, allowing the bottle to be used repeatedly.

The packaging material is suitable for contact with cosmetic products and meets the applicable regulatory requirements.

Nominal and total volume

When filling, it is useful to distinguish two figures. Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for during standard filling — this is the fill level to use. Total brim volume is the physical volume of the container up to the neck and is slightly larger.

The difference between them is an intentional allowance for the closure, dropper or pump, and for any expansion of the contents. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not right to the brim — otherwise the contents will overflow when the closure is fitted.

If you are using the bottle with a dropper or pump, leave some headspace in the neck. The dip tube takes up space and if the bottle is filled right to the brim it will push the contents out.

Suitable for products such as

  • Oil serums and facial oils – blue glass protects unsaturated oils and oil-based active ingredients from light.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass is resistant to alcohol and does not react with botanical extracts.
  • Tonics and water-based preparations – the 100 ml capacity is suited to everyday use; for water-based and alcohol-based contents, choose a closure appropriate to the dispensing method.

What to know

Before first use, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry thoroughly — particularly for oil-based and anhydrous preparations where residual moisture is undesirable.

Glass is sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Do not fill with hot contents immediately after heating and do not expose to rapid cooling — the bottle could crack.

Use the straight body of the bottle for your label; label dimensions are listed in the product parameters. Glass is fully recyclable and belongs in glass waste collection.

Closures with the same neck finish and ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing performance and packaging compatibility with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does a blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, blue glass reduces light transmission and protects light-sensitive contents from accelerated degradation. It is suitable for vegetable oils, oil serums and tinctures where light speeds up oxidation or the loss of fragrance and colour. The protection is not absolute, so store preparations away from direct sunlight regardless.
How much does the bottle actually hold?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml, although its physical brim volume is slightly larger. The difference is an allowance for the closure, dropper or pump, and for expansion of the contents. If filled right to the brim, the contents would overflow when the closure is fitted.
Is the glass bottle suitable for both oil-based and alcohol-based preparations?
Yes, glass is chemically inert and does not react with oils, alcohol or essential oils. It is therefore suitable for oil serums, facial oils, tinctures and alcohol extracts. Unlike plastic, these ingredients do not degrade glass or leach into the packaging material.
What closure fits the bottle?
Closures with an 18/410 neck finish are compatible, as listed in the product parameters. Suitable caps, droppers and sprayers with this thread, as well as ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, verify the seal and dispensing performance with your specific formulation.
Can the bottle be reused?
Yes, glass withstands thorough washing and disinfection, so the bottle can be reused. Before each subsequent filling, wash it, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry, so that no residue from the previous contents or moisture remains.
