Product description
Glass bottle, vial, blue 10 ml
A small blue glass vial with a capacity of 10 ml is intended for cosmetic preparations that are dispensed in small amounts and need to be protected from light. Blue glass reduces light transmission and glass as a material does not react with oils, alcohol, or essential oils. The bottle is therefore particularly suitable for essential oils and their blends, oil serums, facial oils for the eye area, fragrance oils, tinctures, and concentrated active ingredients.
Thanks to its small volume, it is also suitable for samples and test batches, travel packaging, or small runs where you want to offer a premium ingredient in an accessible format.
Why choose blue glass
- Light protection – blue glass transmits less light than clear glass, so sensitive ingredients such as essential oils, unsaturated vegetable oils, and vitamins degrade more slowly through light-induced oxidation. It is not fully opaque, however, so keep finished products out of direct sunlight even in this packaging.
- Chemical resistance – glass does not absorb fragrance, does not soften, and does not react with the contents, even with alcoholic tinctures or undiluted essential oils that can damage many plastics over time.
- Reusability – after thorough washing and disinfection the bottle can be refilled, which is appreciated when preparing your own blends on an ongoing basis.
- Small volume – the contents are used up before they have a chance to lose quality, which is more practical for concentrates and fragrance blends than a larger package.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the quantity the container is designed for during standard filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides clearance for a closure, dropper, or spray pump that protrudes into the bottle when fitted, and also allows for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Both values can be found in the product parameters.
If you are filling with a dropper insert, pour the contents only to the nominal volume and fit the dropper afterwards. Filling to the brim would cause some contents to spill when closing and the thread to become clogged.
Closures and combinations
The bottle has a standard neck; the type is stated in the parameters. Closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of the bottle with a cap, dropper, or spray pump are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, verify seal integrity and dispensing with your specific formulation, especially with thin oils and alcoholic solutions that easily leak through an undertightened or incompatible closure.
Good to know
Based on technical documentation, the packaging is suitable for use with cosmetic products and meets the applicable regulatory requirements. Vial refers to the shape of the bottle, not its intended use.
Before the first fill, wash the bottle, rinse it, and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Leave it to dry completely neck down, as residual water in an oil-based or anhydrous product promotes microbial growth. Follow the same procedure when refilling. Remove the previous contents completely beforehand to avoid mixing fragrances.
Glass withstands normal filling temperatures but not a sudden temperature change. Do not pour a hot mixture into a cold bottle, and do not place a filled bottle on a freezing surface. Fill water-based products to the nominal volume only, as the contents would expand if frozen.
Derive the label dimensions from the diameter and height stated in the parameters. With a small container, keep in mind that the label must be narrow and the text on it concise.
A small glass bottle breaks easily when dropped. When transporting finished products, place the bottles in a box or separate them with padding so they do not touch each other.
