Product description

A blue PET bottle with a capacity of 250 ml and a clear ribbed cap is intended for liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed by pouring or decanted into smaller containers. It is suitable for facial and hair toners, hydrosols, body and massage oils, make-up remover waters, bath oils, and also as a stock bottle of shampoo or liquid soap from which smaller bottles with a pump are refilled.

PET is lightweight and does not break when dropped. This makes the bottle suitable for the bathroom, for travel and for sending finished products to customers. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. In addition, the bottle itself has a certificate for direct contact with food, but the cap does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic use.

How the set works

The cap with a 24/410 neck finish is a simple screw closure without a dispensing opening. The ribbed surface grips well even with wet or oily hands, which you will appreciate with oils and products used in the shower. Inside it has a foam polyethylene (EPE) liner that sits on the neck when the cap is tightened and seals it. The contents are dispensed by unscrewing the cap and pouring, so the bottle suits products from which a larger amount is taken at once: into the palm, into the bath or into a sprayer.

The 24/410 neck is one of the common sizes. Closures with the same type of neck and ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Nominal and brim-full volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling, and it is the figure given on the page. The brim-full volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is usually higher. The difference is a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. A bottle filled up to the neck will overflow when the cap is tightened, and when warmed the contents may press on the seal.

Let warm emulsions, oils that have been heated and syrupy textures cool before filling. PET is not intended for hot filling, and hot contents may deform the wall of the bottle.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the finished product dilutes the preservative.
  • Reuse – after thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be used again. When changing the contents, for example from an oil to a toner, the oil residues must be removed thoroughly, otherwise the water-based product will turn cloudy.
  • Water-based products – toners, hydrosols and make-up remover waters need proper preservation regardless of the packaging.
  • Oil-based products – body and massage oils are dispensed comfortably once the cap is unscrewed, and the neck is wide enough to pour from a larger container through a funnel.

Concentrated essential oils, a high proportion of alcohol, acetone and other solvents may stress the plastic in the long term. For such contents we recommend testing in advance how the bottle behaves with your specific formulation, or choosing glass.

Frequently asked questions

Can the blue plastic bottle with a clear cap be filled to the brim?
No, it should be filled to the nominal volume of 250 ml, not up to the neck. The space above the liquid is a reserve for the cap seal and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. A bottle filled to the brim will overflow when the cap is screwed on, and when warmed it presses on the liner.
Is the blue plastic bottle with a cap suitable for oils and alcohol-based toners?
It is suitable for body and massage oils, but for alcohol-based toners only after testing with your specific recipe. PET normally works with oils, and the ribbed cap is easy to unscrew with oily hands. Products with a high proportion of alcohol or concentrated essential oils may stress the plastic in the long term, so test how the packaging behaves in advance, or choose glass.
How do I clean a 250 ml plastic bottle before reuse?
Wash the bottle and the cap in warm water with detergent, rinse them, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry freely with the neck facing down. Hot water from a kettle is not suitable for PET, as the plastic may deform. Check that the liner in the cap is not damaged or soaked with the old contents.
Is the set of a blue plastic bottle with a clear cap suitable for food?
The set as a whole is not approved for contact with food and is intended for cosmetic products. Only the bottle itself has a certificate for direct contact with food; the cap does not have such a declaration. If you need packaging for homemade oils or syrups, choose a bottle with a closure that is also declared suitable for food.
Which closure fits the 24/410 blue plastic bottle?
Closures with a 24/410 neck finish fit the bottle, i.e. closures for the same type of neck as the supplied cap. The ribbed cap can be replaced with another closure with this neck, depending on how you want to dispense the product. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and behaviour with your specific contents; ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range.
