Product description
The blue PET bottle with pump is designed for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed repeatedly in small doses: liquid soap, shower gel, shampoo, body lotion, facial cleansing gel or liquid hand cream. The bottle has a nominal volume of 250 ml and a 24/410 neck finish, and it is supplied already assembled with a white and silver pump, so you do not need to choose a closure separately.
Plastic is lightweight and does not break when dropped, which suits the bathroom as well as travel. The bottle itself has a declared suitability for contact with cosmetic products and a certificate for direct food contact. The pump does not have these declarations, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic use and food use is not stated for it.
What the set is suited for
- Liquid soaps and shower gels – the pump dispenses approximately 1 ml per press, which corresponds to a usual dose for washing hands or body.
- Shampoos and conditioners – a medium-thick consistency passes through the pump without problems, and the 24/410 neck finish makes filling easier.
- Body lotions and light emulsions – with low to medium viscosity the pump dispenses smoothly, and the contents do not come into contact with your hands during dispensing.
- Cleansing gels and micellar products – a measured dose makes it easier to control consumption.
- Massage and body oils – thinner oils may drip slightly after pressing, so thicker oil blends are more suitable.
Filling and dispensing
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume, not up to the rim of the neck. The physical volume of the bottle up to the neck is larger, and this difference provides a reserve for the dip tube of the pump and for the slight expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents overflow when the pump is screwed on and the pump may become airlocked.
After screwing on the pump, press the head several times until the tube fills and the product starts to come out in a full dose. Products with small particles, for example scrubs or exfoliating gels, clog the pump. The pump is intended for homogeneous liquids and emulsions.
Before filling for the first time, we recommend washing the bottle and the pump, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving them to dry completely. Residual water in the tube would dilute the first doses and, in a preserved product, would put needless strain on the preservative system.
Viscosity of the contents and behaviour of the pump
The pump works best with products that can be poured but do not run like water. A thick cream or body butter will not be drawn up by the pump, or only partially, and the dose will be uneven. Very thin solutions, for example toners or hydrolates, come out forcefully and part of the dose drips afterwards. For emulsions that thicken after cooling, we recommend testing the dispensing on the finished product and, if necessary, adjusting the proportion of thickener.
Viscosity changes with temperature. A product that dispenses without problems in a warm bathroom may be thicker in a cold room. Check the dispensing under the usual conditions of use.
Good to know
PET and product composition. The material tolerates common aqueous solutions, surfactant systems and emulsions. With a higher proportion of ethanol, concentrated essential oils or other solvents, we recommend checking in advance how the bottle behaves with your specific formulation, as PET should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals. Hot contents do not belong in the bottle; let the product cool to room temperature before filling.
Reuse. The bottle and the pump can be reused after thorough washing. Rinse the pump by pressing it several times in clean warm water, then pump it empty to clear any residue from the tube, and leave it to dry. When changing the recipe, we recommend disinfecting with alcohol so that no residues of the previous contents are carried into the new product.
Closures. The bottle has a 24/410 neck finish. You can find closures with the same neck finish and other ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific product.
Besides plastic, the pump also contains aluminium. For products with a low pH or a high salt content, watch whether any changes appear on the pump over time, and check suitability on a sample before a larger batch.
Recycling. The bottle goes into separated plastic waste as PET. The pump contains plastic and aluminium, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.
