Product description

A complete bottle and closure set for cosmetics dispensed with one hand: shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, body lotions or liquid soaps. The PET bottle is lightweight, shatterproof and clear, so the colour and consistency of the contents are visible from the outside. The gold disc top cap gives the product a decorative appearance while allowing the contents to be dispensed without unscrewing. The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

How the set works

A disc top is a closure with a flat disc that opens by pressing the edge. One side of the disc lifts up and reveals the dispensing opening, the contents are squeezed out by gently pressing the bottle, and the disc is then pushed back to the closed position. The gold aluminium shell serves an aesthetic function, while the inner part made of PP provides the thread, seal and the mechanism itself. The centre of the disc is transparent, so the contents are visible even in the closure.

The PET bottle wall is flexible and returns to its original shape after squeezing, so the contents are dispensed smoothly and in the amount you determine by hand pressure. This method of dispensing is particularly practical in the shower or at the washbasin, where the bottle is handled with wet hands.

Which consistencies are suitable for the disc top

The disc top dispensing opening is smaller, so it works best with contents of medium viscosity that flow but are not watery:

  • Shower gels and shampoos – the viscosity of surfactant products is typical for a disc top, the contents flow in a controlled stream and do not drip after closing.
  • Conditioners and liquid hair masks – lighter emulsions pass through the opening without problems; with thicker ones it is worth checking whether they can be comfortably squeezed out.
  • Body lotions and light body creams – emulsions that can be poured are suitable; thick creams for jars cannot be dispensed through a disc top.
  • Liquid soaps and cleansing gels – for products used repeatedly throughout the day, you will appreciate the quick one-handed opening.

With very thin contents (tonics, hydrolates, micellar waters) the contents may leak uncontrollably when the bottle is tilted, and the disc top may not seal as reliably as with thicker products. For such preparations, a spray or a screw cap is more suitable. With thin oils, expect them to easily pass through the disc even after closing.

Before filling a batch, fill one complete set as a test, leave it lying on its side for a few days and observe both the seal of the disc and the behaviour of the contents during normal squeezing. This will tell you whether the viscosity of your product suits the dispensing opening.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the container is intended under normal filling conditions and is stated in the product parameters. Total brim volume is larger – it is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them provides a reserve for the closure thread and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, so that the bottle does not deform after closing and the contents are not pushed out. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

What is useful to know when filling

Preparation before first use. We recommend washing and disinfecting both the bottle and the cap with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol before filling, then leaving them to dry completely. Residual water in the container may impair the preservation of a water-based product.

Temperature of contents. PET is not intended for hot filling. Allow emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle wall may deform and change shape.

A transparent bottle does not protect the contents from light. Fill it with preparations containing a higher proportion of essential oils, plant oils prone to oxidation, or light-sensitive active substances only if they will be stored away from direct light, or choose a dark container.

Composition of contents. PET is resistant to common cosmetic raw materials – surfactants, emulsions, glycerin and most plant oils. With a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, it is advisable to verify compatibility in the finished formulation; the bottle should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals. The aluminium shell of the cap does not come into contact with the contents; only the inner PP insert comes into contact with the product.

Contact with food. The plastic bottle alone holds a certification for direct food contact. The disc top cap does not, so the complete set is intended for cosmetics and we do not recommend it for food purposes.

Labelling. The cylindrical shape of the body allows easy application of a label around the circumference. We recommend applying the label to a clean and dry surface only after filling and wiping the bottle.

Reuse and recycling. The bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. With the cap, check that the disc still seats firmly, as the mechanism wears over time. A PET bottle belongs in sorted plastic waste; the cap combines aluminium and PP, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Other closures. Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, as well as ready-made combinations of the bottle with a different cap, can be found in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing and behaviour of the container with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 250 ml plastic bottle with a disc top cap suitable for shampoo or shower gel?
Yes, surfactant products such as shampoo, shower gel or liquid soap are the most typical use for this set. They have a viscosity that passes well through the disc dispensing opening, and the disc top can be opened and closed with one wet hand. The PET bottle is safe in the shower because it does not shatter like glass when dropped.
Can oil be filled into a PET bottle with a gold disc top cap?
Yes, but with caution. Thin oils can easily pass through the dispensing disc even in the closed position, especially if the bottle is lying down or being transported. For massage and body oils, we recommend testing the seal in advance with the specific oil; for thin oils, a screw cap is more reliable.
Does a transparent PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, a transparent bottle lets light through, so it does not protect the contents from it. For common surfactant and emulsion preparations stored in the bathroom this is usually not an issue. However, if you are filling a product with essential oils, oxidation-sensitive oils or light-sensitive active substances, store it away from direct sunlight or choose a dark container.
Is the bottle and gold disc top set suitable for food?
No, the complete set is not approved for direct food contact. The food contact certification applies to the plastic bottle alone; the disc top cap does not have it, so the combination of the bottle and this closure is intended for cosmetic products. For food purposes, choose a bottle with a closure that has food contact certification.
How to clean and reuse the bottle and disc top cap?
Wash the bottle with warm water and detergent, rinse it, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave it to dry completely. The cap does not need to be disassembled, but rinse it thoroughly with the disc in both the open and closed position so that no residue remains in the mechanism. When reusing, check that the disc seats firmly and the cap seals.
