Product description
A clear PET bottle with a volume of 150 ml and a gold disc top cap make a ready-to-use set for shower gels, shampoos, body lotions and other liquid to medium-thick cosmetic products. Through the clear wall you can see both the colour and the remaining amount of the contents. The bottle is lightweight and, unlike glass, does not break if dropped in the shower or in a travel bag. The cap opens by pressing the edge of the disc, so the product can be dispensed with one hand without unscrewing anything.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle and the cap have the same neck type stated in the parameters and are matched so that the closure can be tightened and the bottle stays sealed during normal use.
What the set is suitable for
- Shower gels and shampoos – when you squeeze the bottle walls, a dose suited to one wash comes out of the disc top. The opening is then pressed back down and the product does not leak in the shower.
- Body lotions and lighter creams – if they are fluid enough to pass through the opening of the cap, they are dispensed cleanly and without contact with your fingers.
- Conditioners and cleansing gels – thicker products pass through the disc top more slowly, but precisely. A volume of 150 ml corresponds to a month of use or a travel size.
- Massage and body oils – oils flow easily through the disc top. For light-sensitive oils, see the note on clear plastic below.
Very thin liquids, such as hydrosols and toners, drip through the disc top and may leak when the bottle is turned upside down. A fine mist sprayer or a dropper is a better choice for them. Thick creams and butters cannot be squeezed out of the bottle, and a jar is more suitable for them.
How to use the disc top cap
The cap has an aluminium shell in a gold colour and a plastic insert made of PP. The outlet opening is visible through the clear centre. The cap is opened by pressing one side of the disc, which tilts the opening up on the opposite side, and the contents are dispensed by squeezing the bottle. It is closed by pressing the raised side back down flat. It does not have a hinged lid like a flip top, and, compared with a pump, the remainder of the contents at the bottom can also be squeezed out of the bottle.
Before the first filling, we recommend opening and closing the cap several times dry and then filling the bottle with water as a test. This will show whether the disc opens smoothly and whether anything leaks when the bottle is turned upside down.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume of 150 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume stated in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the cap insert and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the product is pushed into the thread when the bottle is closed, and the cap then becomes sticky or does not seal.
Good to know
Before the first filling, the bottle and the cap are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. When the set is reused, the disc top is rinsed with warm water in the open position to wash the remains of the previous product out of the channel.
PET is sensitive to heat. Do not fill the bottle with a hot mixture. Let the product cool to room temperature, and do not leave the finished pack in the sun or near a heat source. The material should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the bottle and of the cap insert with your specific recipe in advance, including the tightness after several days.
Clear plastic does not provide protection from light. Products with light-sensitive ingredients, for example vitamins, some vegetable oils or extracts, should be stored in the dark in this bottle, or amber or blue glass should be chosen for them.
The set is intended for cosmetics. Neither the bottle nor the cap has a food-contact certificate, so the set should not be used for oils, syrups or other foods.
The bottle is made of PET, which is commonly collected and recycled. The cap combines aluminium and PP, and we recommend separating it from the bottle when sorting waste. If you prefer a different way of dispensing, you will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
