Product description

This is a ready-made kit for foam soap: a transparent plastic bottle with a nominal volume of 500 ml and a black lever pump with a foaming mechanism. The bottle is made of PET, it is lightweight and shatterproof, making it suitable for use at the washbasin, in the bathroom, the kitchen, and the workplace where glass would be a hazard. The transparent wall shows the contents and fill level, so it is immediately clear when refilling is needed. The foaming pump converts thin liquid into thick foam without a propellant, purely by mechanical mixing with air, and the entire kit is designed for exactly this dispensing method.

The kit is suitable primarily for foam hand soap, foaming facial cleansing gel, foam shampoo, shaving foam from a surfactant base, or diluted household cleaning products. Both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity is available on the product page.

Key benefits

  • Foam without propellant – the foaming pump creates foam mechanically, so the filling requires no propellant or special foam-boosting additives; a correctly diluted surfactant base is sufficient.
  • Economical dispensing – one press of the lever delivers a measured dose of foam that is usually sufficient for washing hands. The filling is diluted with water, so the soap is consumed more slowly than an undiluted product.
  • Transparent bottle – the contents and fill level are always visible, making it easy to monitor stock levels, and it also suits coloured or clear fillings that you want to show off.
  • Lightweight and shatterproof PET – the bottle will not break if dropped, making it suitable for high-traffic areas.
  • Refillable kit – once empty, the bottle is washed, the pump rinsed, and the kit is ready to use again, reducing packaging waste.

How the foaming pump works and what goes into it

The foaming pump draws the filling up through the dip tube and forces it through a fine mesh together with air inside the pump head. The result is a stable foam whose density depends on the type and concentration of surfactants in the filling. Common surfactant bases for soaps and shampoos foam well (for example Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Coco-Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate). Soap bases made from saponified oils also foam, but the foam tends to be less dense and more sensitive to hard water.

The decisive factor is viscosity. The foaming pump can only handle thin fillings with a consistency close to water. Finished liquid soap or shower gel must therefore be diluted with water before filling. A thick gel, cream soap, or a filling containing oils, waxes, exfoliating particles, or insoluble plant ingredients will clog the mesh and foam formation will stop.

Dilute finished liquid soap with water substantially, not just slightly, and verify the correct ratio by testing. If the foam is thin and runny, add more soap. If the lever feels stiff and the foam comes out intermittently, the filling is still too thick. Use boiled or distilled water for dilution, because a diluted filling has a lower preservative content and is more susceptible to microbial contamination.

When formulating your own recipe, keep in mind that dilution also reduces the effective concentration of the preservative. Dose the preservative system for the final diluted filling, not for the concentrate, and maintain the pH within the range at which the preservative is effective. Keep oil-phase ingredients to a minimum and use only those that are solubilised in the surfactant base. Free oil will break the foam.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount of filling the bottle is intended to hold under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is larger. The difference accounts for the dip tube and the body of the pump, which displace some volume when screwed on, and for the air the foaming pump needs to create foam. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow when the pump is screwed on, and the foaming pump may initially dispense liquid instead of foam.

Preparation and repeated use

Before the first fill, wash the bottle with warm water and a small amount of cleaning agent, rinse thoroughly, disinfect with isopropanol or ethanol, and allow it to dry completely. Rinse the pump with clean water by pressing it several times with the dip tube submerged in water, then empty it by pumping without liquid.

Repeat the procedure with each subsequent fill. Residue from dried filling on the mesh of the foaming pump head is the most common reason the kit stops foaming over time. If this happens, pump warm water through the head several times, or leave the dip tube submerged in warm water for a few minutes and then rinse again.

If the dip tube is longer than the height of the bottle, trim it with a diagonal cut so that it reaches just above the bottom. A dip tube that bends inside the bottle may draw the filling unevenly, causing the kit to dispense less foam than expected.

PET is not intended for hot filling. Allow fillings prepared at elevated temperature to cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle may deform. Undiluted essential oils, concentrated solvents, and aggressive cleaning chemicals that could damage the bottle material or the pump seal do not belong in this kit either.

What is worth knowing

Transparent PET does not protect the contents from light, so it is not suitable for protecting light-sensitive ingredients. For ordinary foam soap this is not an issue, but fillings with sensitive plant extracts or natural colorants may fade in light. In such cases, do not place the bottle in direct sunlight.

The kit is intended for cosmetics. It is not approved for contact with food, so do not use it for oil, syrups, or other foodstuffs.

The bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP. When recycling, disassemble the kit and sort the individual parts by material.

Frequently asked questions

What soap goes into a bottle with a foaming pump?
A thin, water-diluted liquid filling with a surfactant base belongs in a foaming pump bottle. Thick gel and cream soap do not foam. Standard liquid soap or shower gel is diluted with water before filling and the ratio is fine-tuned by testing based on foam density. The filling must not contain free oils, exfoliating particles, or insoluble ingredients that would clog the mesh in the pump head.
Why has the foaming pump stopped foaming or is dispensing only liquid?
Most commonly the filling is too thick or the mesh in the pump head is clogged with dried soap. Dilute the filling with water, pump warm water through the head several times, and check that the dip tube is not bent or lifted above the liquid level. Liquid instead of foam also occurs with an overfilled bottle in which the foaming pump does not have enough air.
Can the 500 ml plastic foam soap bottle be refilled repeatedly?
Yes, the kit is designed for repeated filling. Before each new fill, wash and disinfect the bottle with isopropanol or ethanol and rinse the pump with clean water to prevent residue from the old filling building up in the pump head. With diluted soap, hygiene is more important than with a concentrate, because the diluted filling contains less preservative.
Is the transparent PET bottle suitable for soap with plant extracts or colorants?
Yes, with the caveat about light. Transparent PET does not protect the contents from light, so fillings with natural colorants or light-sensitive extracts may fade over time. For ordinary foam soap with a surfactant base this is not an issue; for more sensitive fillings, it is sufficient not to place them in direct sunlight. Hot fillings do not belong in PET; fill only after the product has cooled.
Can I use the foaming pump kit with a household cleaning product?
Yes, if it is a diluted aqueous cleaning solution with surfactants that is not aggressive towards plastics. Solvents, concentrated acids and bases, or undiluted essential oils that could damage the bottle and the pump seal are not suitable. The kit is not approved for contact with food; do not use it for oil or syrups.
