HOMEMADE SOLID SHAMPOO WITH SLSA

Back26. 08. 2019 Tutorials
Today, we'll show you how you can make a solid shampoo at home, composed only of mild tensides (which you can read about on our blog) and ingredients that are approved by COSMOS and ECOCERT.

What are the benefits of such a shampoo?

- it is actually a kind of shampoo concentrate - since it contains very little water, everything that a larger pack of liquid shampoo contains is condensed in a small amount at first glance. So don't be alarmed at the initial higher cost compared to buying a conventional liquid shampoo, a solid shampoo will last just as long and possibly longer than a larger pack of liquid shampoo.
- you do not pack it in plastic, because it will not leak and you will save nature from unnecessary waste, besides it is an excellent companion for business trips, holidays, trips ;-)
- you know what you are washing with :-)

Let's come to the actual formulation and the individual ingredients.

In the recipe are used:
- solid surfactants, which ensure a sufficiently rigid form of shampoo (Sodium Coco-Sulfate - SCS, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate - SLSA, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Decyl Glucoside)
- emollients in the form of cocoa butter, which nourishes the hair and skin, and cetyl alcohol, which also softens - conditioner - cationic emulsifier Distearoylethyl Dimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol.
- essential oils benzoin and patchouli (of course you can replace these with your favourite fragrance or combination in the proportions you specify)

We provide the recipe as a formula so that you can calculate your chosen amount of shampoo based on the percentages.

Phase A
Sodium Coco-Sulfate - SCS - 32%
Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate - SLSA - 30%
Cocamidopropyl Betaine - 8%
Decyl Glucoside - 7.5%
Phase B
Cetyl Alcohol - 3%
BTMS-50 or BTMS - 9%
Cocoa Butter - 6%
Phase C
Citric acid - 1.5%
Benzyl Alcohol, Dehydroacetic Acid - 1%
Benzoin Essential Oil - 1.5%
Patchouli essential oil - 0.5%

Procedure:

!!!When working, do not forget to use protective equipment such as gloves, clothing, or goggles!!!

Mix the ingredients of Phase A and dissolve in a water bath. The result will be a paste-like mixture, which may take approximately 20-25 minutes.
Also mix the ingredients of Phase B together in a water bath and mix into Phase A when it is already homogeneous and soft.
Allow the Phase A and B mixture to cool to 45°C.
Then stir in the ingredients of Phase C.
Place the mixture in the prepared silicone or plastic moulds and leave to stand for a few hours in the refrigerator.
remove the shampoo from the moulds and leave to dry for a few days.

And the shampoo is ready! How easy!

So feel free to give it a try. This is a really simple formulation, so feel free to experiment, add Mica powders and add ingredients that will nourish and enhance your hair - panthenol, extracts, vitamins, essential oils. The possibilities are endless
