Product description

An amber glass medicine bottle with a volume of 100 ml and a white and gold dropper makes a ready-to-use set for filling face oils, oil serums and alcohol extracts intended for the skin. Amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and helps protect products that quickly lose quality in light, for example vegetable oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids or preparations containing vitamins. The dropper allows you to dispense drop by drop directly onto your palm or skin, the contents do not need to be poured out, and the remainder in the bottle does not come into contact with your hands.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face and body oils – liquid oils are drawn up easily with the dropper, and a dose of a few drops for the face matches the usual way of application.
  • Oil serums – blends of carrier oils with oil-soluble active ingredients, where exact quantity and protection from light matter.
  • Oil treatments for hair and scalp – the dropper lets you apply the product in sections directly onto the scalp without it running.
  • Diluted essential oils in a carrier oil – massage and aromatic blends that are dispensed drop by drop.
  • Alcohol extracts and tinctures for the skin – spot-treatment products where a small amount is applied to a specific area.

How to work with the set

The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and a collar made of plastic and aluminium. The length of the dropper is adapted to this bottle. Squeezing the bulb draws up part of the contents, and releasing it dispenses drop by drop. Once screwed on, the collar closes the neck of the bottle. We recommend testing with your specific formulation whether the bottle stays leak-tight when turned upside down or during transport, especially with very thin oils and alcohol-based preparations.

The dropper works best with liquid contents. Thick serums with a gel consistency, or oils that solidify in the cold, are difficult to draw up and the drop is released slowly from the tube. A bottle with a pump or a jar is more suitable for such products.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The headroom above the liquid level is needed for the glass tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.

The nominal volume is the quantity the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck, and the difference between the two values is the space for the dropper. If the bottle were filled to the brim, the contents would be pushed out through the neck when the tube is inserted.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product reduces its stability, and in water-based products it increases the preservation requirements.

Do not fill the glass with a hot liquid. Pour in oils and serums once they have cooled, and avoid sudden temperature changes, for example moving the bottle from the fridge into hot water.

With undiluted essential oils and products with a high proportion of solvents, check how the silicone bulb and the plastic collar behave during a trial period. The glass bottle is resistant to such contents; the dropper is a composite part.

The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The set with the dropper is intended for cosmetics as a whole, and we do not recommend it for homemade oils or syrups in this configuration.

The bottle can also be combined with other closures with the same neck type, for example a cap, a pump or a sprayer. You can find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range.

The packaging can be reused. It is enough to wash and disinfect the bottle; with the dropper, check that the bulb keeps its shape and the tube is not cracked. The glass bottle belongs in glass recycling, while the dropper is made of several materials and is separated from the bottle during recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber glass bottle with a dropper protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and slows down the changes that light causes in them. It is therefore suitable for vegetable oils prone to yellowing and for serums with light-sensitive ingredients. No coloured glass provides complete protection, so the bottle should be stored out of direct sunlight.
How much can you actually fill into a 100 ml medicine bottle with a dropper?
The bottle is designed to be filled with 100 ml, which is its nominal volume. The total brimful volume is higher and you can find it in the parameters. The difference serves as headroom for the glass tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when warm. If you fill it to the nominal volume, the dropper can be inserted without overflowing.
Can the glass medicine bottle with a dropper be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the dropper are designed for reuse. Before filling again, wash both parts, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry. The silicone bulb gradually loses its elasticity, so check it each time you fill the bottle. Residues of the previous oil in the tube can speed up the yellowing of the new filling.
Is the dropper suitable for thick serums, or only for oils?
The dropper is suitable for liquid contents, and thick gel serums are difficult to dispense with it. The tube has a small diameter and a viscous mass is drawn into it slowly, so the drop is then released unevenly. A bottle with a pump or a jar is more suitable for gels and cream serums, while the dropper is the right choice for oils and liquid serums.
Is the bottle and dropper set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food, but the dropper does not. The bottle and dropper set is therefore intended for cosmetic products. For homemade oils or herbal extracts, choose a bottle with a different closure that has a food-grade certificate.
Can a closure other than the dropper be fitted to the 100 ml medicine bottle?
Yes, the bottle can be combined with other closures that have the same neck type given in the parameters. A cap, a pump or a sprayer may be suitable, depending on the consistency of the contents. With your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation. You can find ready-made sets in the Handymade range.
