Product description
This amber glass medicine bottle with a volume of 100 ml, supplied as a set with a plastic dropper insert and a white cap, is used for dispensing liquid preparations drop by drop. Amber glass filters light, so it suits contents that quickly lose their properties in light: essential oils, fragrance oil blends, oil serums, massage and facial oils, tinctures or alcohol extracts. The 100 ml volume corresponds to larger packs, such as those experienced makers prepare for their own use, for sale, or as a stock from which smaller bottles are filled.
The set consists of three parts: a glass bottle, a short polypropylene dropper insert that is pressed into the neck, and a white cap with an 18/410 neck finish. All three components are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The declaration of conformity and certificates are listed with the product.
How the set works
The dropper insert sits in the neck of the bottle and has a small opening through which the contents flow out in individual drops when you tilt the bottle or slowly turn it upside down. This removes the need for measuring and reduces the risk of pouring out more than necessary. The clear insert does not change the look of the bottle and stays in the neck during normal use.
The cap screws onto the thread of the bottle over the dropper insert and seals the packaging between uses. The set is intended for liquid and slightly viscous contents. Thick oils or macerated oils with higher viscosity flow slowly through the dropper insert. With such contents, it is worth testing the dispensing before filling a whole batch.
What it is suitable for
- Essential oils and fragrance blends – drop-by-drop dispensing is the usual way of using concentrated substances, and amber glass also protects the contents from light.
- Oil serums and facial oils – 100 ml holds a dose for several months of use or a stock for filling smaller bottles.
- Massage and body oils – a larger pack for a masseur’s work table or a home bathroom; the dropper insert limits spillage during handling.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts – the glass is resistant to ethanol, and the dark shade slows the effect of light on the plant ingredients.
- Fragrance oils for diffusers and candles – convenient drop-by-drop measuring when testing fragrances and for smaller doses.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume of 100 ml is the volume for which the packaging is intended in normal filling. The total brimful volume, that is the physical volume up to the top of the neck, is slightly higher and you can find it in the parameters. Part of this space is taken up by the dropper insert pressed into the neck, and the rest remains as a reserve above the liquid level.
Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the liquid level reaches the neck, the dropper insert will push part of the contents out when pressed in, and the thread and cap will get dirty when closing.
Good to know
Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle, disinfecting it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting it dry completely. It is enough to rinse and disinfect the dropper insert and cap in the same way. Both parts are made of plastic, so do not dry them at a high temperature. Fill only into dry packaging, as residual water would be trapped in oil-based contents.
The glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection, so you can use the bottle several times. When reusing the dropper insert, check that the insert in the neck still holds firmly and that it is not deformed after removal. With concentrated essential oils, solvents or contents with a high proportion of ethanol, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic dropper insert on a single piece before filling a whole batch.
Only the glass bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food. The dropper insert and cap do not have one, so the set as a whole is not intended for food, only for cosmetic use.
Amber glass slows the effect of light, but it does not replace storage in a cool place away from direct sunlight, especially with essential oils and unpreserved plant extracts. At the end of its life, the bottle belongs in glass recycling; the dropper insert and cap are made of plastic and are sorted separately.
You can find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. When making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
