Product description
A milky glass jar, 25 ml, with a gold lid is a complete set for small amounts of cosmetics: a matte glass jar, a gold screw-on lid and an inner insert that is placed between the contents and the lid. It is suitable wherever a nominal volume of 25 ml is sufficient – for eye creams, balms, solid perfumes, ointments, samples or travel-size cream portions.
Milky, i.e. frosted glass reduces light exposure to the contents, while allowing the colour and fill level to show through slightly. Glass does not react with common cosmetic ingredients, including oils and essential oils, making it suitable for anhydrous and oil-based formulations. The complete set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics; the declaration of conformity can be found on the product page.
Why choose this set
- Three pieces that belong together – the jar, lid and insert are matched to the same thread type, so there is no need to search for and test a closure separately.
- Matte glass – reduces light that accelerates yellowing of oils and loss of fragrance, and looks uniform even without a label; fingerprints are less visible than on clear glass.
- Inner insert – a flat disc placed directly on the contents limits contact of the cream or balm with the lid and reduces the amount of air above the surface after closing.
- Gold lid with sealing insert – the foam insert in the lid rests on the rim of the neck and assists sealing; the colour contrast with the light glass suits gift and seasonal editions.
- Small volume without waste – the contents are used up before they can age, which is especially important for preparations without a preservative or with sensitive oils.
How the set works in practice
The jar has a wide neck, so it can be filled with a spoon, spatula or by pouring and the finished preparation can be scooped out just as conveniently. After filling, place the inner insert on the levelled surface of the contents, then screw on the lid. The insert keeps the surface of the contents intact during transport and, on first opening, indicates that the product has not yet been used.
The lid is plastic with a gold sheen and seats snugly when tightened by hand. With anhydrous solid preparations (balms, solid perfumes, ointments) the set holds the contents reliably. With thin oils or liquid serums the jar is unsuitable by its very shape – those require bottles with a dropper or pump.
Place the insert only on contents that are completely cooled and solidified. If placed on warm mass, it will stick and tear the surface when the lid is opened.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the amount for which the jar is designed for normal filling, and this is the figure stated on the product label. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference between them is an intentional allowance: space for the inner insert, for the lid to seat, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The jar should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If filled completely, the insert has nowhere to rest and will push some of the contents under the lid when closing. The nominal volume can be found in the product parameters.
Suitable for products such as
- Eye creams and décolleté creams – a small dose of a more expensive preparation where 25 ml is consumed within a reasonable time.
- Lip balms and solid ointments – anhydrous formulations with butters and waxes that are poured hot and solidify in the jar.
- Solid perfumes – a wax base with a fragrance composition; glass does not absorb scent and the matte surface looks understated.
- Samples and testers – the same cream you sell in a larger jar, in a smaller pack for trial.
- Travel sizes and gift sets – a uniform appearance of several preparations side by side.
What to know before filling
Before first use, wash the set, disinfect both the jar and lid with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely; an anhydrous balm should not go into a damp jar. The inner insert can simply be wiped with a disinfectant and dried.
Glass can withstand warm mass, but not a sudden temperature difference. Pour heated butters and waxes into jars at room temperature or slightly pre-warmed, not into jars taken straight from the cold. Allow the mass to cool slightly before pouring while it is still fluid – this also reduces the risk of the centre sinking after solidification.
The plastic parts of the set, i.e. the lid and insert, are not glass and with formulations containing a high proportion of essential oils or solvents their surface may change over time. For such preparations we recommend testing one filled set for several weeks before filling the entire batch.
The jar can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection, which is appreciated in home production. When selling to customers, a new set is always recommended. Glass belongs in glass recycling, the lid and insert in plastics.
The set is intended for cosmetics. Neither the jar, the lid nor the insert has food-contact certification, so do not use it for home-made food, syrups or spices.
