Product description

This is a ready-made complete set for filling creams and thicker preparations: a glass jar with a volume of 25 ml in a milky finish, a silver screw-on lid, and an inner insert that presses against the contents beneath the lid. Milky glass diffuses direct light while still allowing the contents to faintly show through, making it suitable for preparations with more sensitive ingredients that should not stand in a clear container on a windowsill. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

The 25 ml volume is a practical size for eye creams, concentrated face creams, ointments, anhydrous butters, solid perfumes, samples or travel sizes. Thanks to the wide neck, the contents are easy to fill and scoop out with a finger or spatula.

What the set contains and how it works

  • Glass jar – frosted glass that does not react with the contents and handles both oil-based and water-based formulations well.
  • Plastic lid with silver sheen – a screw-on closure that tightens with a few turns and gives the jar a finished, clean look without any further finishing.
  • Inner insert – a thin white plastic disc placed on top of the contents before screwing on the lid. It protects the surface of the cream from air trapped inside the lid, prevents leaks when the jar is inverted during transport, and reduces drying out of the edges.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the jar is designed for during regular filling. Total volume to the brim is slightly larger, as it includes the space all the way to the neck. This difference is a reserve for the inner insert and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The jar should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise the insert will push the contents onto the thread and the lid will not be clean.

Fill creams and emulsions when cooled to room temperature. Warm contents will settle after cooling, leaving a gap under the insert and making the product appear underfilled. Anhydrous butters and balms, on the other hand, can be poured in liquid form and allowed to solidify directly in the jar. Attach the insert and lid only after the contents have fully solidified.

Suitable for products such as

  • Eye and concentrated face creams – the small format is used up before the recommended period after opening expires.
  • Balms and ointments – anhydrous preparations with butters and waxes store well in glass, and glass does not absorb fragrance components.
  • Solid perfumes and fragrance balms – the frosted glass with a metallic-looking lid works as gift packaging too. For a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend verifying on a test pack that the fragrance does not affect the plastic lid.
  • Samples and travel sizes – 25 ml is a volume that lets the customer try the product without committing to a large size.

Good to know

Before the first fill, wash the jar, insert and lid, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual moisture in the jar is a common cause of early deterioration of anhydrous preparations that would otherwise not require a preservative.

Glass and heat – the jar can withstand warm filling, but avoid sudden temperature changes, such as pouring hot balm into a jar taken straight from the refrigerator. The lid and insert are plastic. Do not pour hot contents onto them; attach them only after the contents have cooled.

Essential oils and the lid – glass is resistant to essential oils and solvents; the plastic lid should not come into direct contact with them. The insert between the contents and the lid limits this contact.

Labelling – self-adhesive labels adhere well to the frosted glass surface. A label with the batch number and date fits on the bottom of the jar.

The set is intended for cosmetic preparations. It is not declared for contact with food; do not use it for homemade syrups, oils or spices.

The ready-made set is assembled so that both the lid and the insert fit this neck exactly. If you wish to combine the jar with a different closure of the same neck type, you will find the range and other ready-made combinations in Handymade packaging. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Recycling – once emptied and rinsed, the glass jar belongs in glass recycling; the lid and insert go in plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 25 ml milky glass jar suitable for creams with a water phase?
Yes, the jar is suitable for emulsions as well as anhydrous preparations. Glass does not react with the contents and does not absorb water or oils. For a cream with a water phase, however, keep in mind that the wide neck means more frequent finger contact with the contents. The preparation must therefore be properly preserved, or we recommend using a spatula.
Does milky glass protect the contents from light?
Partially. Frosted milky glass scatters and diffuses direct light; contents are better protected in it than in a clear container, but it is not a full substitute for dark amber or blue glass. For preparations with highly photosensitive ingredients, we additionally recommend storing them away from direct sunlight.
What is the white insert in the 25 ml glass jar for?
The insert is placed directly on the surface of the cream before screwing on the lid. It limits contact between the contents and air, prevents leaks when the jar is inverted during transport, and protects the inside of the lid from contamination. For anhydrous balms poured in liquid form, the insert is placed only after the contents have fully solidified.
How much cream actually fits in a 25 ml glass jar?
The jar is filled to the nominal volume, i.e. 25 ml, even though slightly more would fit to the brim. The difference is a reserve for the insert and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. For thick creams and butters, calculate weight according to the density of your formulation; 25 ml does not correspond exactly to 25 g.
Can the 25 ml milky glass jar be reused?
Yes, the jar and lid can be reused after thorough cleaning and disinfection with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. For the lid, check that the thread seals as well as it did on first use. We recommend replacing the insert with a new one, as the thin plastic can deform after the first use and may no longer sit flush against the contents.
