Product description
Plastic bottle, pharmaceutical style, 500 ml with sprayer is a ready-made packaging and closure set for formulations applied by spraying over a larger surface. A brown plastic bottle in a pharmaceutical-bottle shape with a nominal volume of 500 ml and a white trigger sprayer with the same neck type make a pair designed for cosmetic and household sprays – body and hair mists, air and fabric fresheners, or natural water- and alcohol-based cleaners.
The brown colour of the bottle reduces light transmission, helping to protect light-sensitive contents such as formulations with essential oils or plant extracts. The PET material is lightweight and shatter-resistant, making the set suitable for the bathroom, workshop, and travel where glass would be a risk. The trigger sprayer with a dip tube reaching the bottom allows convenient dispensing until the contents are fully used up.
Benefits of the set
- Light protection – brown plastic reduces light penetration and slows changes in scent or colour of light-sensitive contents.
- Lightweight and shatter-resistant – the PET bottle weighs a fraction of a comparable glass bottle and withstands everyday drops and handling.
- Convenient dispensing – the trigger sprayer releases a small measured dose as a fine mist with each press, suitable for even application on skin, hair, fabric, or surfaces.
- Practical volume – half a litre is sufficient for a household spray, freshener, cleaner, or a larger batch of body spray without frequent refilling.
- Matched set – the bottle and sprayer share the same neck type, so the closure tightens without searching for the right thread.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is designed for regular filling, and it is this figure that the packaging is labelled and sold by. The total brimful volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference provides clearance for the sprayer dip tube, which takes up some space when screwed in, and for slight expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the contents will overflow when fitting the sprayer.
Filling and working with the sprayer
Before the first filling, we recommend rinsing the bottle and sprayer with warm water, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing to dry completely. The sprayer needs to be pressed several times before use until the dip tube and pump fill and an even mist appears.
The trigger sprayer is designed for water-based and water-alcohol contents with low viscosity. Thick emulsions, oils, and formulations with undissolved particles clog the pump or block the nozzle and are therefore not suitable for this set.
For formulations with essential oils solubilised in water, it is worth checking the nozzle behaviour after a few days, as higher concentrations of fragrance materials may leave deposits. After use, it is advisable to flush the nozzle with clean water to prevent residue from drying inside.
Suitable mainly for products such as
- Air and fabric fresheners – water-alcohol sprays with a fragrance composition, applied over a larger surface.
- Body and hair sprays – hydrosol tonics, light leave-in conditioning sprays, refreshing body mists.
- Natural cleaners – solutions with surfactants, vinegar, or alcohol for household cleaning; with stronger chemicals, PET resistance must be verified.
- Plant and household sprays – leaf misting and fabric treatment solutions.
- Repellent and refreshing sprays – water-based with a low proportion of active ingredients.
Good to know
The set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. The bottle has a food-contact compliance certificate on its own, but the sprayer does not, so the complete set is not approved for food use. If you need a bottle for household oils or syrups, choose one with a different closure that carries food-contact suitability.
PET does not tolerate aggressive solvents, concentrated essential oils without dilution, or high temperatures. Allow hot solutions to cool before filling, and with cleaners containing higher levels of solvents, first test a small sample to check whether the bottle softens or deforms.
The bottle can be refilled after thorough washing and disinfection. When switching to a different type of formulation, it is better to replace the sprayer as well, since residues of fragrance materials from the dip tube and pump are difficult to remove. Store the full set upright and out of direct sunlight, even though the brown plastic reduces light transmission.
The smooth cylindrical wall of the bottle is suitable for label application. At end of life, the bottle belongs in plastic recycling; unscrew the sprayer and dispose of it separately, as the bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of polypropylene, two different materials.
Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.
