Product description
Plastic bottle, dropper bottle 28/410, brown, 200 ml
A lightweight and shatterproof PET bottle in a dropper-bottle shape with a capacity of 200 ml and a 28/410 neck finish. The brown-tinted plastic reduces light exposure to the contents, making it especially suitable for products whose ingredients lose stability in light: vegetable oils, body and massage oils, tinctures, herbal extracts, tonics, liquid soaps and shampoos. Dropper bottle refers to the shape — straight walls with rounded shoulders — not to the intended contents.
The packaging is approved for direct contact with food, making it suitable for home-made oils, syrups, vinegars and infusions as well. It is also compatible with cosmetic products. Declaration of conformity and test certificates are listed on the product page.
Why choose this bottle
- Light protection – brown plastic limits light penetration and slows the oxidation of oils, essential oils and light-sensitive active ingredients. It is not a complete barrier, so store filled bottles away from direct sunlight.
- Low weight and shatterproof – PET is significantly lighter than glass and will not shatter if dropped. This is an advantage when shipping products to customers, travelling and using them in the shower or bathroom.
- One of the most common neck finishes – the 28/410 neck is among the most widely used formats, so there is a wide choice of caps, pumps and sprayers.
- Volume for standard packaging – 200 ml corresponds to a standard retail size for body oil, shampoo, shower gel, cleansing oil or liquid hand soap.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is designed under normal filling conditions. The total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides clearance for the closure, the pump or sprayer dip tube, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling to the neck may cause overflow once the pump is attached.
With thicker products (thick shampoo, gel), let the filled bottle stand for a moment so that air bubbles rise to the top before fitting the closure. This prevents the appearance of under-filling after the contents settle.
Suitable contents for this bottle
PET handles both water-based and oil-based contents well: tonics, hydrolates, extracts, liquid soaps, shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, body and massage oils, hair oiling serums and cleansing oils. Plastic is commonly used for tinctures and products containing alcohol. At high concentrations of ethanol, however, it is worth monitoring the seal, as alcohol can slowly permeate through the plastic and closure.
Caution is warranted with products containing a high proportion of essential oils or solvents (limonene, citrus and conifer essential oils in pure form, acetone, nail-polish removers). Undiluted essential oils can gradually soften or cloud PET and cause leaks. In finished cosmetic products with typical fragrance dosages in the low single-digit percentage range the risk is low. For concentrated raw materials, glass is preferable.
PET is not intended for hot filling. Heated contents deform the bottle and can damage the thread. Products manufactured at elevated temperatures (emulsions, syrups, wax-in-oil formulations) should be allowed to cool to room temperature before filling.
Closures
The bottle is compatible with closures matching the neck finish stated in the specifications. Individual caps, pumps, sprayers and complete bottle-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend testing seal integrity and dosing with the specific formulation beforehand, particularly with thick or alcohol-based contents.
Good to know
- Before first use, rinse the bottle with clean water, optionally sanitise with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product promotes microbial growth and affects appearance.
- Changing contents – when switching from essential oils to a tonic or another lightly scented product, washing may not remove the scent that has absorbed into the plastic.
- Labelling – the straight walls of the dropper bottle provide a continuous surface for a label; dimensions are listed in the specifications. Self-adhesive labels adhere well to PET. For products used in the shower, choose a waterproof material.
- Heat – do not leave the bottle in a hot environment for extended periods (a car in the sun, near a radiator); the plastic may deform.
- Recycling – PET is among the most readily recyclable plastics and should be sorted as plastic waste after use.
