Product description

The brown 1000 ml plastic dropper bottle is a storage container for liquid products that require light protection. The brown tint reduces light transmission, so vegetable oils, hydrolats, tinctures and extracts retain their original scent, colour and properties for longer. The bottle is made of PET — lightweight and shatterproof, which you will appreciate when handling and transporting a litre-sized container.

Its capacity makes it suitable for bulk and larger-volume packaging: shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, tonics, hydrolats, massage and body oils, household products, or bases you prepare in larger quantities and later decant into smaller containers. The packaging material is suitable for direct contact with food under normal conditions of use, making it ideal for home-made oils, syrups, vinegars and herbal extracts. It is equally suitable for use with cosmetic products. A declaration of conformity and test certificate are available on the product page.

What makes the bottle practical

  • Light protection – brown PET transmits significantly less light than clear plastic, slowing down oxidation of oils and fading of coloured or fragrant components.
  • Low weight and durability – a full litre bottle is considerably lighter than glass and will not crack if dropped, which is an advantage both when storing on a shelf and when shipping to customers.
  • Food and cosmetics – a single container works in the cosmetic workshop, the kitchen and the household without having to consider its intended use.
  • Standard neck – the bottle can be combined with closures of the matching neck type available from Handymade; ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are also available.
  • Recyclability – once emptied and rinsed, the bottle goes into plastic waste collection.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed to be filled to under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference between the two is a margin: space for the closure, pump or spray tube, and room for the contents to expand with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim — otherwise the contents will overflow when closing and may press against the closure during warmer storage.

Pour thicker products — such as shower gel or shampoo — slowly down the inside wall of the bottle. This limits the formation of foam and bubbles that would distort your estimate of the filled volume.

Filling, cleaning and reuse

Before the first fill, we recommend washing and sanitising the bottle with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving it to dry completely, neck down. For cosmetics and food use, a clean container is as important as the preservation of the contents themselves.

The bottle is suitable for repeated use. Once emptied, thorough washing with warm soapy water, rinsing and drying is sufficient. Bear in mind that plastic may retain residual scent after strongly fragranced contents — for example perfumed products. For neutral products, a new bottle is then the better choice.

PET does not tolerate high temperatures. Do not fill the bottle with hot contents, do not sterilise it by boiling or in a dishwasher at high temperature — the material may deform. Allow products manufactured hot to cool before filling.

The straight cylindrical section of the body is suitable for labelling. Apply the label to a dry and degreased surface; otherwise it will peel off quickly on oily contents.

Good to know

Dropper bottle refers to the shape — a cylindrical body with a narrower neck — not the intended use of the container. PET tolerates aqueous solutions, hydrolats, vegetable oils and alcohol-based contents such as tinctures or cleaning solutions with ethanol. However, concentrated essential oils and aggressive solvents can degrade plastic over time. At typical essential oil dosage levels in a finished formulation this is not an issue, but do not fill neat essential oils or strong solvents into PET. For unusual contents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the container with a single bottle first.

When combining the bottle and closure yourself, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing behaviour and container performance with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 1000 ml brown plastic dropper bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown PET significantly reduces light transmission and slows down oxidation of oils and fading of coloured and fragrant components. The protection is not complete, however — the brown tint attenuates light rather than blocking it entirely. Even in a brown bottle, store light-sensitive products away from direct sunlight, especially vegetable oils and hydrolats without preservatives.
How much does the 1000 ml plastic dropper bottle actually hold?
The bottle is designed to be filled to its nominal volume of one litre, although its physical capacity up to the neck is slightly more. The difference serves as a margin for the closure, pump or sprayer and for expansion of the contents during warmer storage. Filling right to the brim causes overflow when closing and pressure on the closure.
Can the 1000 ml plastic dropper bottle be washed and reused?
Yes, the PET bottle is suitable for repeated use after thorough washing with warm soapy water and drying. Do not use hot water or boiling — the plastic could deform. After strongly fragranced contents, residual scent may linger in the plastic; for neutral products, a new bottle is then the better option.
Is the 1000 ml PET plastic dropper bottle suitable for oils, alcohol-based tinctures and aqueous solutions?
Yes, PET tolerates vegetable oils, aqueous solutions, hydrolats and alcohol-based contents including tinctures. Concentrated essential oils and aggressive solvents are not suitable, as they can degrade plastic. Typical dosage levels of essential oils in a finished formulation are not a problem. For unusual contents, we recommend testing with a single bottle first.
Can I use the 1000 ml plastic dropper bottle for food?
Yes, the packaging material is suitable for direct contact with food under normal conditions of use — it is therefore appropriate for home-made oils, syrups, vinegars or herbal extracts. The test certificate is available on the product page. Wash and sanitise the bottle before the first fill, and do not fill it with hot liquids, as PET is not designed for hot-fill applications.
What closure fits the 1000 ml plastic dropper bottle?
The bottle accepts closures with the matching neck type stated in the product parameters. The Handymade range includes compatible caps, pumps and sprayers, as well as ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations. When assembling your own set, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing performance directly with your formulation.
